hey thanks man….. this video helped me alot…. and yes they had the same sending unit…… only thing that was different was the location of the tank it was under the rear seats on the passanger side….. great video man

Great vid! Quick question do you remember what kind of fitting the vent that goes back to the vapor canister? I’m having a difficult time trying to find a replacement.

conan6868 says:

I dont think so. Try rockauto.com. They include good part numbers and the prices are fair

bkmTEC says:

Hi does the 94 lesabre use the same sending unit?

conan6868 says:

Hi need need to unplug the electrical connection on the sending unit on the tank and test for resistance. the resistance with a full tank should be 90ohms. Empty tank should read around 2 ohms. Thats what the repair manual i have says for 1998 thru 2005 buick century. The sending unit could be bad or the guage in the dash is bad. Good luck

@conan6868

My 94 is pretty rusty, being in NE Ohio we get the salt and nasty winters too. Thanks lake Erie! I just replaced my tank with a new spectre brand and made sure to get their brand pump and sending unit as well so it all worked. My strap bolts were rusted in place. Took me about 12 hours to do it all. But it runs so good it was worth the money to do it right. Mine has a hitch too! 😉 Good luck with yours.

its not a hard tank to replace. Its just a pain if you have to do it twice! Its a tough old car lots of horsepower too. I even tow a 5×10 trailer with it sometimes.

I’m debating on how to tackle my 94 as well. It has a leaky tank and sending unit so the whole thing needs done but my bolts are so screwed and rusted underneath I’m prolly gonna have someone else fight with it. Better to watch them cuss at it than me.

conan6868 says:

i agree with the JB welds it does work wonders. This tank was bound to leak again so i decided to just replace it. It was supposed to be a simple job. It wasnt. Thats life.

jasonmushersee says:

In agriculture all replacement fuel sending units are “one size fits all” and you have to “cut to length” to get the float to float. I went through all this to.

jasonmushersee says:

Did you replace the fuel pressure regulator? That aftermarket pump will work fine but like you said they don’t always fit because there made for so many different tanks. It’s the same for water pumps & brake pads, OEM is the best way to go on these parts because they fit. There must be some difference between the 2 gas tanks, the other salvaged car. If one could’nt find a tank at all, JB Weld & Permatex make 2 part epoxy for leaky tanks. It works awesome.
