Sudden loss of power on my BMW Z3 ! How to test for a clogged catalytic converter. I hate cats! E36

I was cruising along at 60mph or so and all of a sudden it felt like I hit a strong headwind. I shut the radio and the engine sounded stifled. I down shifted and floored it only to hear a muffled exhaust note and a gutless response. What the Heck! This car never gives me trouble and I know better to think that my plugs loaded up from carbon. Carbon does not deposit on engines that frequent the redline. The muffled exhaust note made me immediately think it was a clogged catalytic converter. It idled fine, did not have a miss or a check engine light, just a loss of power. I limped her home at embarrassing speeds and hit my home computer as soon as I got in the house. Sure enough, the first thing to pop up under loss of power was, you guessed it, clogged catalytic converter. We will just call it a cat from this point on. The next morning, I put the old girl on the lift and the rest is shown in this video. My usual toys consist of pre-cat vintage vehicles so diagnosing the cat was new territory for me. I didn’t want to order any parts until I was sure or the problem. Especially since BMW is fairly proud of their parts and money doesn’t grow on trees around here. Throwing parts at this car is not an option so a testing I will go. Come with me as I confirm the issue and make a temporary repair until new parts can be obtained. The results will astound you.
