@Johncarson9113 It is possible for the oil from a new or freshly cleaned
and re-oiled filter to deposit on the hot-wire or film of the MAF (Mass Air
Flow sensor). When using an oiled filter (K&N or AFE) clean the MAF after
the first week of operation, using CRC Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner, then
run until the filter needs to be cleaned. Of course, you can use the AFE
Pro Dry S filter, which uses no oil at all. See our web site for more info
on these: bavauto.com.

Please answer into this question. Im planing to buy e39 530d 1998-2001 and
i would like to install air filter like K and N as i went into page there
was air fitler for this model but some people saying that they havnt heard
of replacing filter with stuff like from K and N onto diesel , so i dont
really know should it effect car or it would be good ? Ps i will buy used
car.

BavarianAuto says:

While a high flow intake filter would indeed be beneficial to a diesel
engine, Niether K&N or AFE makes a filter for the Euro version diesel
engine used in your E39 chassis 530d.

I was going to buy the K&N filter at my local Pep boys but I was told that
the oil they cover the filter in doesn’t do to well on BMW’s and to be more
specific I have a 2004 BMW 325i sedan. Is this true? Also which filter
would you recommend?

@BavarianAuto Thanks for the info I really appreciate it!! But when you
recommended the AFE Pro Dry S filters are those better then the oil
filters, and which one will be better for a BMW.
