Nope, didn’t work. I hit that sucker like swinging for a home run several
times… nada. It’s stuck and I’ll have to resort to buying the one-time
use tool.
Thanks bro. I got it after the 2nd smack. I found this way is faster than
using pulley holder tool. Got 32mm wrench from Home Depot for $13. Now my
car is very quiet with new fan clutch Sachs model #W0133-1608865-SAC. The
one removed was originated since 2001 labeled BEHR BMW model # 11.52-7
505302. When smacking it, if the wrench goes all the way to radiator hose,
good chance that the nut is loosen. Not only quieter, new fan clutch
provide better cooling efficient to the engine.
I use a slightly different method. Remove the upper radiator hose to gain
better access, then use a large adjustable wrench for the large nut and a
10 mm box-end wrench to hold one of the pulley nuts in place. I use the
same large adjustable wrench for the oil filter cap. Easy peasy.
I use this technique often, usually with a large crescent wrench. It only
works, though if you know the rotational direction of the pulley the fan is
on. As a side note; if the fan has been on forever, it sometimes take
several attempts to break the nut loose. Great info though. No need to
spend two hundred doll hairs or more for a specialized tool kit with a pin
spanner and maybe the right wrench.
Note: for those wanting to know hoe to tighten. Simply the reverse of
removal. Just tap it once or twice after you have hand tightened. It does
not have to be very tight at all.
Thanks for your video! I was really stuck on this. I loved the beginning –
it gave me a chuckle and cleared my frustration. Your video convinced me I
wasn’t hitting the wrench hard enough. I whacked the heck out of it, and
that finally loosened it. Great!
But I bat right handed, might be hard to get a good left handed swing on it

Huge help!!!!!!
I just use the wrench. The engine actually tightens it the rest of the way.

1:36 “Giant nut! (gimme that, that nut…)”
1-1/4″ Wrench will work too.
no success with this method.

My man! Thank you so much. I was f…king around this for a while and your
method worked as a magic!
Haha, I like your “effe this” moment that you left in the video. Always
adds character to videos.
Thanks but yet to try..
how to you tighten the nut when your putting the Fan back on?
Good tip, but did NOT work for me.
Thanks a lot man.
man thats a dirty filter..
Simple, hilarious and the best DIY for removing the fan clutch. Thank you.
My local Sears had a Craftsman 32mm wrench, made in USA for $26.
Oh, and very good video. Short, to the point, informative, helpful, told me
exactly what I needed to know. Thanks and keep it up!
