Bruce McKinnon says:

Great video, Can you change the motor without removing the regulator, I
have just blown the motor on my 1 series and dont need to change the
regulator, thanks!

edward quinn says:

thanks for the video followed it step by step and replaced the regulator
today without any problems.

Issa Abdallah says:

I have a 2002 325i, the wooden panel, the one that has 2 screws behind it,
does that slide back on? or does it need to be glued?

Winterever says:

Thanks very much! Successfully did it on my alpina!!

Lou Pica says:

thanks so much, this video was spot on, I bought the parts myself for 27
and installed it in about 1 hour (even with my usual mistakes). The window
nuts are 8mm not 10mm…other than that it was great. You may want to add
if the cables get all locked up, the window won’t come down or move. I cut
them with metal snips, window dropped right down…accessed the nuts just
al little lower than where you suggested…thanks so much

demetrakis7t2 says:

Earl I have the EXACT same issue….thinking of ordering a new set of those
orange/red clips with bolts required, unless anyone else knows better?

WorldOfIvillis says:

Hi, My dad was able to replace the window after buying a new regulator and
it worked. The only issue we have now is that if we hold it for a long time
to put it up, once it reaches the top, it rolls back down. We think it has
to do with sensitivity, but we don’t know how to fix it. Any ideas? it’s a
2006 bmw 325i rear driver side.

BavarianAuto says:

If you have a later model with a cable operated regulator, then it is
likely that the regulator needs to be replaced due to the cable breaking
away from the window glide mount.

BavarianAuto says:

We have not produced a DIY for the rear window regulators on the E39
chassis. We have done a replacement and the procedure is rather unique for
this model.

BavarianAuto says:

The E46 models do not require any adjusting after a regulator (or glass)
replacement. Some other models do. The Bentley repair manuals for the
various BMW chassis will cover these points. Other than this, we don’t have
a specific issue for your to look at.

Earl Robinson says:

I followed every step on my e46, however when I tighten the 2 nuts to
tighten the window, the window goes up but does not come down, the spastic
(orange colored) seats slip off, I tried it again this time tightening it
more still the same problem, please advise

mocrg says:

PS I can hear the motor running but the window won’t move. Is it possible
it’s just jumped the track of the nut came loose?

mocrg says:

What about rear door of a 1997 e39 with window shades?

alex tsygulev says:

Hello, first thanks for the video! Very DIY doable! My question is actually
on changing the front right passenger, otherwise known as “Glazing” I
recently replaced my window, and it doesnt close all the way unless i put
pressure on the window from the outside. Are there any steps or things i
need to know when installing a new window? Thanks!

BavarianAuto says:

Aside from any binding that may be present, have you performed the
initialization procedures? This sets the up and down stops and the power
curve for opening and closing. The procedure is too long for the characters
allowed in this reply. It is detailed in the Bentley repair manual for the
E90 chassis. Available at bavauto.com.

astroboy Chew says:

Thanks for the video. I recently replaced my E90 rear window regulator.
Everything fits well. But once the window fully reclined, it had difficulty
getting up.. once it starts moving, then no problem but once fully
reclined, same problem. What seems to be the cause?

lambchopxoxo says:

wow mine wanted $800

BavarianAuto says:

We do not currently have a DIY on replacing the hood release cable on the
E46 3-series chassis. See the Bentley repair manual for the steps in
replacing cable assembly. We have the manuals in-stock at bavauto.com. The
part number is B305.

Robin Buys says:

Great video. I would also like to know how to find and replace the cable
that opens the hood on my 2000 328ci. Thanks so much!

BavarianAuto says:

Not sure what you mean by lock pin.

Amani213 says:

I just replaced the driver window regulator and now the 2 rear ones went
bad. Is it necessary to unplug the battery to work on the rear windows
since there are no air bags in the back?

Mentalities says:

My windows on both sides have a hard time going up and down. After viewing
your video I’m still stuck on how to repair and fix my window. Help!!

GetYaShitTogetha says:

How did this video get 44 Dislikes? Because BMW DEALERSHIPS watched it and
realized they were losing THOUSANDS of dollars by not being able to charge
people $400 for such a quick and easy job!

BavarianAuto says:

Sometimes the old adhesive will still work, but often it is not “sticky”
enough to properly secure the vapor barrier. We do offer new adhesive in
our online store at bavauto.com. The part number of the adhesive is 08612

Jojo Mojo says:

guys i really have a question; i tried to do this by myself but at the
Airbag I was too frightend to remove it. Do I have to worry to fire it by
accident? Or can i just remove it without any security issues?

GiantSnipe says:

Great video! My prob is with 118 passenger side. Since purchase 4 yrs ago,
window sometimes does not drop when door is opened, so door does not close
properly. When this happens passenger-side wing-mirror & window switch also
stop working (window can still be lowered from driver side). I can
reproduce failure by opening door fully – on last position if the window
was down (working properly) it will always go up again. Any ideas? They’ve
changed the window mechanism but didn’t solve the problem.

vzambrano821 says:

Great video! Very useful. One sugestion: maybe show some points on where,
how and why the regulator is bad.

stlee74 says:

I have just bought a 323 se. The window motor is working, but it sounds
like its come out of the rail, it doesn’t really move unless I push it.
What holds the glass into the rail? A clamp? Glue? Screws? Clips?

ltz15 says:

Thanks for the reply ;). I did it my standard unprofessional way, just got
in and took everything apart. Put it back together and its all good :).
Thanks once again :)!

Steven Hylton says:

How do u reconnect the outer door handle. I cannot open my 1996 BMW 328i
pass Door from outside but can from inside.

model-fit says:

I just installed a new window regulator on my gf’s 2000 323i following the
instructions in this video (front, passenger side). It goes up & down
slower than the other windows & seems to be laboring. I followed your
instructions to a t. What could be causing this? Do I need to take off the
door panel & hit the tracks w/ some wd40 or tighten the bracket nuts more?
It looks completely aligned & seems to be laboring only in the middle of
going up or down not toward the top or bottom & closes flush.

BMWkamikaze540 says:

I have a 98 540i pushing 300k miles. My left rear window rolls down fine,
but doesn’t roll back up, but you can pull it up and down freely by hand.
Do I just need a new regulator? Also my front passenger window works fine,
but is noticeably slower than the rest and if not rolled up little by
little makes some nasty noises, and also rattles when partially rolled
down, I fear it’s on it’s way out too. Any insight is appreciated.

BavarianAuto says:

If your 323i is an E46 model, as shown in the video, you can see the two
clamps that secure the glass to the slide brackets. It is likely that your
cable is fraying or broken and a new regulator will cure your issues. If
you have a different model, the points may be different. Feel free to call
our advisors at 800-535-2002 for more detailed assistance.

BavarianAuto says:

You likely have a broken link. You’ll have to remove the inner panel and
get in there to inspect to see what’s going on. Once you know where the
problem is, we can then order parts. Our advisors can help you once you
have an idea what’s broken. bavauto.com or 800-535-2002

pOLYkNOCK says:

Thanks for this video! BMW dealership in Sacramento wants to charge me $400
for parts and labor. After watching this video I’m bout to do it myself.

BavarianAuto says:

It’s probable that the cable is fraying or one of the pulleys is coming
apart. We’d recommend that you order a regulator and then open it up to see
what you have. If you find that the regulator does need to be replaced (as
it likely does), you’ll have the regulator there to install. Check them out
at bavauto.com or call our advisors at 800-535-2002

BavarianAuto says:

Your 98 318ti is an E36 chassis. The regulators on the E36 are totally
different from what is shown in the video. The Bentley repair manual for
the E36 models will cover the regulator and motor replacement. We have the
regulators, motors and the Bentley manuals in our online store at
bavauto.com or you can call our agents at 800-535-2002.

dcroash says:

Great video, nice detail. I have a 02 316i Compact 1796. Is it the same
procedure as in this video and would the same regulator work? The cables on
mine are damaged and I need to replace. Really appreciate any help. Thanks
alot! D

Cristian Xp says:

Hi! At the 0:24 clip i see that manual.. Please! I want this! Can you help
me!? Please!

MrCapeVerde says:

Got the part and the bottom rear plastic clip was broken. Installed it
anyway as there are 2 rubber bushing large supportive screws. Took 7 hours
to this job- I went home and straight to bed. Several hurdles on this 760i
compared to your 3 series. Engineered differently and had to undo the
doorstop among other things. The soft close and the power window lock on
this door now does not work. Any idea or video on what I did wrong? I
should only have to remove the first panel to fix this- thanks.

JEFF Ellis says:

My passenger side window goes down find but goes up slow and has stopped
before, but with assistance will go up. DO you think it’s binding due to a
worn window regulator? I have a 325ci. It looks like something I can do but
want to be relatively sure it’s the regulator before I order one. Should I
go OEM or after market?
