► Valve covers are typically a lifetime component. The gaskets that seal the valve cover to the cylinder head are a common replacement item and a common source for oil leaks. If the valve cover is warped or damaged in any way it will need to be replaced. This Genuine BMW replacement is the ideal repair solution as it comes with a valve cover gasket set and mounting bolts. Follow along as Gareth Foley takes you through the steps needed to replace your valve cover.

My PCV valve and valvetronic motor gasket are leaking so I guess i'll just replace the whole thing…

Great video. I did this procedure on a 2011 328i E93 N51 version. I broke the PCV breather hose even though I was warned so I had to also remove the intake manifold. I cut out the PCV valve rather than replace the whole valve cover because I didn't want to risk an ill fitting aftermarket cover. Changed all the gaskets in the process and things look and work great. It was very tight getting the valve cover back on the head though. I think it was the riskiest part of the job getting the cover with the new gasket past the valve springs and the firewall/chassis at the base of the windshield. Thanks again for the video.

19:45 and people say there is no advantage to the plastic valve covers 🙂 …. Just the same, I'll keep the magnesium cover on my 06 and gladly eat the cost of the bolts lol

How long did this job take you?…I have to do this on my 2011 128i …shops are saying 6hrs!

@FCP Euro , thank you for the video, it gave me the courage to do it all on my own. it is my first project lol !!!
37:23 to bolt in the valvetronic motor, great, but at 45:43 i have a question. The amazing person doing this said "spin the 4mm by hand but while stop going in a clock wise (45:53) direction once we feel tension…take the 4mm going counter clock (46:03) wise until we feel tension and then we stop", this doesn't make sense, he is going clock wise the entire time, can you please clarify? Thank you !

An update to anyone doing this, after you install your vcg properly (seated good enough, bolted good enough), then do yourself a favor and spray down any residue oil on the sides of the silver cylinder head with engine degreaser, followed by a wash with water, and finally a clean with a regular towel. repeat until gone. i'll tell you why, because if you don't expect to see annoying white smoke that smells like burning oil (because it is). enjoy !

The only video you need to watch if you have an x3 with n52. Done mine and it feels good.

Hey there – can't thank you guys enough for this video and several others that have saved me time, headache, and lots of $$$. This one was at the far edge of my skills, but got it done! THEN, pulled a bonehead maneuver and want to see if you have any ideas as to why the car won't start. Attached a video link to this that will hopefully better show you the issue I'm having. Thanks in advance for any help you can lend!

Please help! Whistling noise. PCV valve. I looked at mine and their is no hose connected to the PCV valve. Should there be? Where does it come from? Any way to clean the PCV valve? I do not want to spend $$$'s.

Awesome video! Best DIY on YouTube…thank you for talking about the clips. The hardest thing about DIY is not breaking anything!
