Man ECS you guys deserve a PayPal donation!. Finally a video on YouTube that explains the PROPER method to service the ZF transmission…

barclyde1 says:

Thanks for that USA, so why does my local transmissiion fella want to charge me £175.00? Mind you that’s some tools you need to do this simple work! But if you are doing this all the time, the tools will soon be paid for..blahblah etc

Raksasok Heng says:

what happen if we not replace the gasket?

Vovka Lermontov says:

Wow, thanks so much for the clearest video ever

FatShanWingChun says:

Nice clean workshop:)

ECSTuningMedia says:

The fluid used is compatible with with factory fill fluid, so cross fluid mixing is not an issue.

si98justme1 says:

Doesn’t he sort of have a point?… when the cars leave the BMW factory they are usually filled with Esso LT 71141 lifetime fluid, in the procedure you have put up you aren’t draining the Torque Converter which as I’ve been lead to believe still holds the majority of the old fluid and by ZF’s own data sheets on fluid replacement they are adamant on not mixing different fluid types, or am I just missing something?

ECSTuningMedia says:

Most consider a transmission flush to utilize special machinery which pushed fluid in and out of the system.

mnewgin says:

Thanks. Just to clarify, a flush is doing 2-3 drain and refill, is that right?

ECSTuningMedia says:

We do not recommend transmission flushes on BMW transmission at the current time. A simple drain and refill is all that is needed.

mnewgin says:

Do you recommend a fluid flush as well? If so, would the procedure be the same?

JayzBeerz says:

This is so much easier when it is on a lift.

ECSTuningMedia says:

It’s very hard to diagnose without having the vehicle on hand. I would suggest visiting your local shop and having them inspect the vehicle.

I have a 2003 X5 3.0 with 164000 miles on it. At first start in the morning only, when I put it in drive I have to wait about 10 or 20 seconds with my foot on the brakes before taking off or the engine will rise as it slowly moves forward. But no problems the rest of the day. Could it need its first fluid and filter change, low fluid or could it be more serious?

ECSTuningMedia says:

Currently we don’t have any plans for future transmission service DIYs, but you can use this as a guide as it is a similar processes.

propanemower13 says:

Hi I was wondering if guys could get do a transmission fluid diy video on a 2007 (e70) X5 with the N52 6 cylinder that would be extremely helpful thank you

bmwnasher says:

My E39 has a green plug in the pan that you remove revealing a 17mm fill level plug only, Its LT oil marked on the green plug. this i hope will help someone as trying to find out is a nightmare,
What would happen if the transmission was 200ml over or under the level any ideas. LT 71141 is BMW recommended oil

ECSTuningMedia says:

The fluid used in the video (Redline D4 ATF) meets all Esso LT 71141, Shell LA2634 & M-1375.4, Texaco ETL 7045 & ETL 8072B requirements and is one of our best selling transmission fluids. It is completely safe to use in this transmission.

AleX17095 says:

This is the wrong oil. You have to use ATF LT 71141!!!! And not the red one.

ECSTuningMedia says:

The most accurate way to measure the trans fluid temperature will be to use a probe located just in the fill hole.

quocpauo says:

How do you check the temp of the fluid? By the pan’s surface or dippin inside the fill hole?

Georgi Damceski says:

Have some differents if my car is 530 diesel and in ur selection have 530 i ? the same fluid and filter kit for d and i ?

ECSTuningMedia says:

The process is similar on the E60, many clients have reported back to us that they are using this video as a guide for other bimmers including E60s!

The filter does not “have” to be changed during every single service on most vehicles it is up to you on how in depth of a fluid change you wish to do.

We have kits available for most E60s on the site. Just select Select your vehicle > Drivetrain > Transmission > Service Kits to view the kits. They come with all fluids needed.

Georgi Damceski says:

I have BMW e60 2004 what type of oil i need to use and how many litres? Can u put a video for E60? Will the filter must be change because the filter is on carter?

ECSTuningMedia says:

We do!! Go to the ECS Tuning website then Select your vehicle > Drivetrain > Transmission > Service Kits

From there you’ll see a few different offerings for your car!

bcbp14 says:

Sweeet thank you guys. I’m changing my fluid on my 200k ’99 528. Do you sell ‘kits’?

Bob BlahBlah says:

I’d love to see one for an E90/91. Pro video btw!
