that’s how such a night should end, with a big spliff :D

Terabass says:

The clutch is self-adjusting. When re-installing a used clutch the clutch must be tightened again, or it might slip once installed. That’s what that special tool is for. Other than that its just basics.

spiderman1321 says:

cool video, car without exhaust sounded awesome

only1balto says:

This video explains nothing.

aadome says:

Mad respect for doing the clutch and thanks so much for posting!

Martynas Marinskas says:

nice car!!! I like E39 M5 very much :))

19CD91 says:

Good job on the video bro. Sick editing keep it up.

Terabass says:

I borrowed them from a friend. Not sure where to get them. The clutch centering tool you will need, but the press is only needed if you install a USED self-adjusting clutch back into the car. New ones usually come tightened already.

Jose Fuentes says:

Can you list the tools you used, for clutch centering and the press? what’s best site to get them at a good price?
Thanks!

FuriousHondaBoy says:

Which?

Terabass says:

My car is your profile picture. LOL

Terabass says:

Clutch was not slipping. It was flooding oil from clutch area.

Terabass says:

We cut the guibo off. It was cracked anyway and bolts were siezed.

Terabass says:

I already had a Honda w/ manual. It was very good.

Isac Mattos says:

The video was very cool. But could explain me, why the clutch spring was moved in 4:20 and if the tools that were used by you are special. Thanks

chopper82p says:

Revving a cold engine 😮 Good video anyway

mada faka says:

Walker71820061 says:

hey budd thanks for uploading the vid 😉 about to do the clutch on my 540 but doing some research prior to. Question: other then the clutch alignment tool & the special t60, what other special tool’s would be needed other then the basic’s. I saw that you used another tool to pressurize the pressure plate; was that only because you had to re-cage the pressure plate? thanks ahead

goma3 says:

+1 on this.

The net is full of “E39 M5’s melt clutches” threads, but mine has 75,000 on the original clutch and still has 0 slip and I certainly don’t baby the car.

Honestly I just think a s**tload of people don’t know how to drive stick.

dominoskf says:

Patrick mun says:

great video, seems like you had fun that day, i organize mechanics day with some friends and we do maintenance to our cars , but simple jobs like tune ups , ive been having sound problems from my throw out bearing and ive been thinking to fix it myself and after watching this i might do it. you inspire diy´ers , keep posting vids

Steve O says:

where did you get the tool for the flywheel bolts? or did you just use a regular ribe fastener?

Darren Harkin says:

I don’t think the video has any intention on teaching you how to do this job. If you are totally relying upon youtube videos to change a clutch instead of either taking it to BMW themselves or already knowing how to do this due to technical knowledge, I don’t think you should own an M5. I truly believe that Terabass made this video to show the beauty, YES I said, Beauty of such work. not to teach you.

I for one, think this video is amazing. Inspirational.

felix cat says:

excellent video. should have ended with a shot of the beast.

Pongthum Sukkamol says:

im planning on doing my clutch on my E36 soon and I was wondering why you used that puller device on the springs on the pressure plate…
would an E36 need that special tool? im also planning on converting it to a single mass flywheel any thoughts on that?

Mate your video is awesome I had an M5 e39 a few years ago and I consider myself a DIY mechanic but what you achieved is very impressive. I especially liked the home made ramps !!

awesome job mate!

Dragan Celan says:

Nothing but respect. This was awesome. I just picked up an E39 530i Sport package (5-speed of course) and I’m looking into doing the CDV removal and 5th/reverse detent fix. Apparently there was a TSB on the ZF 5-speed transmissions. It’s a good thing I’m a mechanic myself but am new to BMW so I gotta take it slow. I had a Honda Civic for the last 4 years so it’s much simpler. Regardless, it’s portably much easier to drop the tranny in a RWD car than a FWD car. Anyways, again great job! E39 FTW!

Akpssp says:

great guide.. need helptera.. followed your guide and successfully installed a new clutch and pressure plate by Sachs, reinstalled the transmission, start the engine and all good no noise etc but clutch is not engaging??? put it in 1st or reverse gear but nothing?? i can even release the clutch and engine wont die..

also while the car is running, i can shift to all the 5 gears and reverse even if im not stepping on the clutch.. any advice?

the141monkey says:

All finished with a huge rewarding spliff at the end … nice 1
