jmercado84 says:

I just learned that I did not need to replace the battery. I just needed to reprogram the key. A very simple thing to try before going all out

nicksilvacastro says:

and now you have a getto key

nicksilvacastro says:

cheap fuck

brickceo says:

If your circuit board is damaged when opening the case or removing the battery, you can order a blank (Uncut) replacement key ($25- $60 online) and just swap out the circuit boards. Worked like a charm. I ordered mine from NJ on Saturday night and had the new key in SoCal on Monday. Saved over $200

Tarse09 says:

@ CORNELIUS, check out Buckhead Performance. Great shop in Atlanta, I drive about 2 hours to bring my car in

brickceo says:

BTW there is a video posted by MrAdk25 regarding this same subject, he does not know what he is talking about (full of Shick). this video actually works. Be patient with the cutting it quite difficult and if you rush you destroy the board. There is a chip seen at 4:30 it’s the silver rectangle, it is just micro-soldered on each of the 4 sides and will come of really easy. I’ve watched this video 30+ times just to figure out which way it goes back on. Getting it wrong it will likely fry it.

Imran Irshad says:

Where can I get the new battery. Dealership or ….?

cornelius crisp says:

Make sure to use a charger that you can plug up..No need to waste gas! My X5 key is working like brand new..Now I can use my money for the starter issue! Anybody know a cheap bmw mechanic in marietta ga! lol seriously! ;-(

cornelius crisp says:

Thank you Julio for sharing about the BMW key. But here is what I learned. The BMW Key should get recharged whenever you have it in the ignition when the car is running. My key wasnt recharging in my X5. which pointed to another problem with my starter. check this out..If you put the key in the ignition in the number two position and place a charger on your battery. U can recharge the key. It might take a few hours to fully charge..But if there is no damage to the key..IT will charge

Sam EyeQ says:

These are supposed to be rechargeable or they heat up and can cause u some problems..
so my question is what is the battery u used and where did u get it from ? Thx for the tutorial by the way

iPlayVodka says:

My key isn’t working at all. I know you have to drive for a long time to charge up the key but I had a 2600 km trip in my car but the key didn’t charge even a little bit. Can the chip inside be burnt or something? Or could it get wet somehow…
Anyway changing battery wouldn’t work for me. I’ll take it to BMW center. If they ask too much, I will put aftermarket central locking with sensors and stuff..

visvire says:

Did you know if you hold down the open door button for 30 sec it opens your windows? try it

Des Jolly says:

rip off—-A

ratcat17 says:

Yes but does it still start the car? You might lose the info in the transponder so the car wont recognise the key.

ratcat17 says:

They want $1000 at BMW in Vic

jonathan sendar says:

Youre talking a lot dude. But thnx for the vid!!

michael soulsby says:

usefull information but fuck me that was more painfull than being at the dentists.

zegolgti2000 says:

the manual says to drive with the key for a long period of time, like travel somewhere because the key is charged by the ignition barrel

raym316 says:

That’s a lot bro

Holum Fong says:

if you go to ikeyless dot com it’s like 80 bucks for a remote one and 25 for a standard key.

David Hadlow says:

Australia BMW charge $695.00. Dawgs

kimdaviscali says:

After u change the battery and it still dont work what can I do

Endre Ozsvár says:

Hey guys. My key hasn’t been working for the last few days, so I have replaced the battery, and glued the key back together. It opens and locks the doors, but the engine won’t start. I tried programming it, but it’s still not working. If you have any advises, I’ll be willing to try them. Thank you. (BMW 530i 2002)

Rakuten Kitizawa says:

Hmm, so there’s a battery in the key too? As well as the keychain? Hmm. Another battery to replace..My keychain’s battery went out..and now my doors won’t unlock/lock/unarm the car. ( with the keychain anyhow..the key still works..) My ’98 e36’s alarm goes off as soon as I open the door, so I’ve always had to use the keychain to disarm the alarm on it..but then the battery was dead..and after I replaced the battery it was still going off so I had to disconnect the battery to the car :

salbarjr says:

Definitely agree with you Mark, my 2002 540’s key didn’t work for a while, I reprogrammed it and it worked great for a year or so. Although lately some times it work and sometimes it does, I think I need a new battery finally..

zthde says:

Fantastic. Thank you xxx

BMWg84 says:

If you are not capable of doing it yourself, send it to bmwgm5 and he will do it for you.

Jettech Mech says:

I tried this video and it did NOT work for me..I could not get new battery to stick to solder no matter what… the metals are dissimilar im guessing..

Mark Howard says:

TIP, try to reprogram before assuming bad battery. A rep at the dealer tried to reprogram (or acted like he did) and it didn’t work. I spent 4 years stewing over it. I ripped the battery out of one of the keys per this video, while awaiting a battery for the hell of it I tried reprogramming, and it worked! I don’t know how a battery in a year 2000 car can work after 14 years, but it does!

blazer2k61 says:

Nice bro

Mark Howard says:

battery is welded on BOTH sides, so be prepared for the challenge. I used needle nose pliers to grab and break the weld. Knife or blade wouldn’t get it for me. Awaiting battery shipment.

Mark Howard says:

thank you! and shame on my beloved BMW for engineering the key FOB as a disposable $230 part!!

Lord Melkor says:

radionics.rs-online(.c o m)/web/p/coin-button-rechargeable-batteries/0407877/ Would this battery do the trick? It fits the description VL2020 3v Only it says Li

YepItWorked4Me says:

I just bought mine on ebay – 2 for less than 15$ dollars.

YepItWorked4Me says:

You can buy rechargeable batteries – the car will charge the new key just like the old one – this guy saved me $400.

YepItWorked4Me says:

I had 2 keys that both stopped working – I ordered the batteries from ebay and was able to get both keys working for less than $15.
The batteries currently available on ebay don’t match the band you can see at 4:34. the half circle with 2 right angles. and i was unable to solder onto the battery itself – you must solder the band together to get the configuratio- but it does work!!!!!!

wolfpackMSP says:

you are a mental midget! you cannot replace the battery in a BMW key. The key stores energy when used. This is the worst most misleading video I have ever seen. You have successfully caused people to destroy their key!

nemalypy says:
