2008 BMW E90 335i with the N54 Engine
The control arm bushings are THE MOST common BMW bushing failure that I’ve ever seen. When they fail, they cause a horrific clunk in the front end when you hit a bump, drive over a small curb, or if you tap the brakes quickly. Today im going to be showing you how to diagnose it, and how to fix it with basic hand tools at home.

I always have a real hard time with that headlight arm clip. Last time I had to use two pairs of vice grips to hold it and a third pair of pliers to get it to snap in.

rwd got it easy. The awd they have a built in ball joint thats pressed into the knuckle and it is a pita to remove haha

Having worked in a BMW shop, I’m sure you know that this is an issue on MINIs also (at least older ones). I owned three different gen 1 cars (r50, 52, and 53) and the LCA bushings died on all of them within about 50k miles. On the MINI they are significantly more of a PITA to change!

While the Meyle control arms are a good option, I believe the Lemforder ones were the OE supplier for BMW for the E90, but nonetheless they should do the job.
Very well done DIY, and those M3 control arms are such a good upgrade! They do take a bit of persuasion at the subframe, but nothing a little hammer and pry bar work can't solve.
I would have you fix up my AWD E90 in a heartbeat. Needs oil pan gasket and turbo upgrades!

I love FCPEuro, some of their prices are higher, but when you factor in, dealer gives 90 day warranty, 1 year on some parts. FCPEuro gives lifetime, you just need to pay shipping for returned items. They have the best customer service too. I'm a fan of upgrading parts too, may affect ride, but in most cases so negligible it's ususally not an issue, especially when you factor in the extended lifespan.
