My ’08 X3 has been starting to crank a bit slow for the first start of the
day. Vehicle is a CPO and appears to have the original battery. I want to
just change it before the cold weather sets in here in Chicago. Replacement
appears straight forward, but have read conflicting information about
“resetting” the system after a replacement. Any truth to this or is that
just dealer talk? Also, I have found locating a good replacement difficult,
perhaps due to it being a AGM not lead acid?

Hello, For your X3 you do not need to bother with a battery registration.
This is only to tell the vehicle that a new battery is installed for an
internal battery log. You can definately DIY on this repair. Just make sure
the vent is installed correctyly. I think the only place you can find the
correct AGM battery will be the dealer. You can use a non AGM of the same
compacity and CCA’s but I would recommend OEM parts. The glass cell battery
is a better battery but difficult to find.
