Great! Keep in mind that your 540 will remember that motors where not working properly at some point until memory is cleared by GT1 type of scanner. It’s amaizing that even that malfunction gets recorded in the Black Box!
Fantastic. Thank you. Repaired my seat driver’s this morning in just a couple hours. Without this video, I would have no idea where to start, Now I can safely drive my ’01 540i and keep it for a couple more years 🙂
Great simple clear and precise description - thanks!
Thank you! I repaired my seat in a flash. Great video.
Yes, can be done that way. But i would also glue those separated cable shells together. Cable movement can force them apart. It’s not that dificalt to remove the seat though and it’s not always possible to make the seat straight without removing cable out of motor.
you don’t have to take the seat out to do this fix. I cut a 1cm section of the rubber hose that surrounds the cable and now the seat is working perfectly.
Sorry, forgot to mention it is the SF Bay section of Craigslist. Seems the person covers the entire Bay area.
Go to Craigslist, auto parts and search for “BMW, Twisted”, the is a person that advertises that he or she will fix twisted seats.

I live in San Francisco, can I pay you to fix mine?
@quickbmwrepair – I live in San Francisco and have been needing to get this fixed. Please let me know if you can help me out. Thanks!
can i pay you to fix mine? I live in San Francisco
Paul from BMW Twisted Seat Repair dot com will fix it. He is in Phoenix.
i prefer the cutting method.
but i do use more heat putting the cap back on, and the i immediately cool it with a wet cloth.
you can use a small adaptor, or battery charger that provides 12 volts.
i use it to move the motor in every way i want.
if you disconnect one cable (2 for each motor), and power the motor, you can allign them perfectly
1 motor 2 cables per function
i do the same thing in Holland!, i fixed 20 seats already.
i figured it out when my seat twisted, been helping other people ever since.
No. Sorry. I’m in San Francisco.
Would you happen to be in Southern California – Orange County?
Is one motor for each side or one motor for backrest and motor for bottom seat?
Find cable that goes to the side you need to adjust. Remove cable out of motor. Push cable in to engage it with adjustment mechanism. Turn cable with plyers or a drill to adjust seat position to straight. Hold the cable or it will unwind especially if there is pressure on the panel you are adjusting. When adjusting seat’s back I usually place the seat on a chair upside down, so the back seat is hanging off of chair
Sorry. California. Try to do it your self. It’s very easy.
Are you located in Phoenix AZ ?
Do you offer this service ? I need to do this to my 5
Thx
Hey, i revised your video multiple times and wanted to know if you had an answer for me: I bought some seats from a salvage and they have the twisted seat problem. I dont have power running on the seats and they are already twisted. Is there a way i can manually align them? it says in your description that you can do it with some pliers and electric drill but can you be more specific?
thanks, Alex
Awesome dude. There is however a slightly easier way. If you pull the steel cable out of the sheath and measure it first you can hammer (not too hard though) the cable as you turn it until you get that half inch increase. I think that’s a better choice than to cut the housing.
I have done this over 150 times and it works perfectly.
Thank you so much!!!!
