►This DIY addresses one of the easiest jobs you can do on the ever-popular N20 engine: the vacuum pump. On this particular DIY, we’re using a 3-Series BMW F30, but it’s also applicable to a handful of other vehicles listed in the description below.
Some of the signs you may need to replace your vacuum pump are if your car enters limp mode and displays a “Drivetrain Malfunction” Warning light. Also, if you’re noticing a leak coming from your vacuum pump, or if your engine cover is full of oil, those could also be signs you need to replace your vacuum pump.
The N20 boost solenoid is also worth doing at the same time for earlier models. On the later models, the wastegate is controlled electronically, therefore you don’t have to replace the solenoid. The vacuum pump itself and the associated gasket, however, are the exact same process between both models.

What was the mileage of the car when the vacuum pump was replaced? Is this a typical failure around that mileage? My N20 has an electronic waste valve control and I would like to know if I need to be prepared for a new vacuum pump at a certain mileage mark.

How reliable are the Vaico parts made in China compared to oem parts from Germany?
Do you think it’s okay to install a used vacuum pump? The car had 88k miles and it doesn’t have any oil in the vacuum lines as of now. And it’s 70$
So if we don't replace these parts it only affects performance or will it damage other parts as well?
Changed my spark plugs recently and that vaccum tank under the engine cover is filled with nothing but oil drained a lot out of it
