It is a micro filter so it collects very small particles but you can
definitely give it a good whack or two and reuse if not too dirty.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Adrian, The smell is usually from bacteria on the heater core and
evaporator inside the heater box. I use a Lysol concentrate that I spray
into the blower openings with the microfilter out. You can also use an AC
cleaner and deodorizer spray from an auto part store or that can be found
online.

The retaining screws are 8mm 🙂

Thanks for the vid. I just purchased a 2006 330i and the car is in awesome
condition but the inside smells like I don’t know wtf? Its not like a
rotten smell but more like and old house that hasn’t been swept or
something. It reads that the micro filter is way overdue and i’m guessing
that should solve the problem. What’s the best deodorant to use to spray
into those vents again? Thanks for your help

Hi, great video! I have 325i 2006 model. Just a quick question. What is the
size of the nut bolt? I have to buy the Nut driver so I want to get the
correct size before buyong a one. Thanks!

AskTheCarExperts says:

The dealer or on EBAY would be a good place. I did find some on ebay with a
quick search. But it should not cause any problems to have just one broken
🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, A sweet smell can mean a coolant leak possibly from the heater core.
Coolant has a sweet smell if there is a leak. You can have the drains for
the AC checked under the vehicle for signs of coolant. Also check the micro
filter in case this is the source of the smell. You should be able to smell
the same odor at the microfilter as in the vehicle. I hope this helps 🙂

Thanks for the comment! I got a good laugh 🙂

Question if you’re still checking this video: Got a ’06 325i and sometimes
when running AC/heater, I can smell a sweet odor almost like antifreeze
coming through the vents. Could this be related to the micro filter, or a
deeper issue? I’ve smelled this for a while but just within the last few
days have I gotten a dash notification to change the micro filter.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, the air filter is most likely the micro filter. The engine air
filter is often referred to as the intake silencer on the key data.

I just got a key data report and it says the air filter needs to be
replaced, I am assuming its the “micro filter” that is being referred to.
Can someone please confirm this?

Thanks for this Video. I am planning to do this over the weekend. I am
having an ordinary screw driver and wanted to know what kind of screwdriver
are you using ? What is the name of it and I see you using this kind of
sound making screwdriver in all your videos ? Where can i get it.

R6CarteLLo says:

great video, just helped me and encouraged me to do it myself. worked out
perfectly.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, In most cases the micro filter is associated with the brake fluid
replacement. If you have the service warning coming up in the display then
it would have to be reset through the instrument cluster and the stalk
switch.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, for fresh air mode make sure the setting on the heater control panel
is set so the recirculation button is off. This would be fresh air mode on
default. If you have one of the interior freshener sprays then you would
use that inside the vehicle and put it on recirculation mode so it uses the
air inside the cabin to freshen and deodorize the evaporator. Hope this
helps! 🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, I often use air tools so this would be my 1/4 inch ratchet. You can
purchase a lot of electrical tools now with adapters that work great. You
only need an 8 mm socket for this repair that will fit onto a tool of your
choice. 🙂

semaisking says:

How to leave the AC on fresh air mode, is there any button, because i cant
find it?

AskTheCarExperts says:
