FCP Euro says:

It’s simple maintenance but it’s often overlooked. Your BMW fuel filter
keeps the fuel running to your engine clean and free of debris.

In this simple DIY we’ll show you how to replace it in just a few minutes:

Great video. I’m curious, is it always necessary to depressurize the system
by removing fuse 54 and then running the car until it stals? I have a 2003
bmw 330ci. Would greatly appreciate your help as I am brand new to German
cars.

I replaced my E46 Fuel Filter after 108,000mi. If under the car, wear
goggles, latex gloves, and a mask (have a fire extinguisher too, just in
case). Gas from the forward line dumped all over my face (shown at 2:22)
even though I had all those things on and a hat. Ran blind to my shower and
soaked my face for 10min. That was a terrible experience. Before I catch
too much flack, I pulled the fuel pump fuse (#54), ran the car until it
stalled out, then again for good measure as to purge the lines.

Fhantom99 says:

Other lesson learned: Cut a plastic gallon milk container to catch gas.
When removing hoses (starting with the front, then rear), be quick to stop
up the fuel line with your thumb to minimize leaks/spraying. Use a plastic
BIC pen to stop up the leaky rear hoses. Replace clamps and rubber
filter-to-fuel lines (can get at Lowes or Home Depot). FCP, you guys are
the best!
