the BMW z4 roof maintenance should have a section on how to or when to replace the microswitch wires and the exact procedure.
My suggestion will be after 10 years or 100k mi. in my case the car is black and it digests lots of heat in the summer, and it transfers into the wire shell, and it starts disintegrating much faster. The BMW e89 Z4 is an amazing convertible but the convertible top is a piece of technology and it’s a weak point in this car.
