You can try to inspect them without removing the wheel, just see how much material is left on the pad. Otherwise, a warning light will come on in the car when they are very low and need to be replaced soon. And you can just replace the pads!
How can you tell if they are worn? I have a 2006 m5 and I was wondering if you could just change the pads?
Only if they’re worn… new pads can use old rotors.
Dont you have to replace the rotors to with the m5?

Are you serious? I have on many occasion seen another silverstone E60 M5 around Friars road. I’d be happy to assist with the pad install, but I don’t live in San Diego yet, I’m still in northeastern Ohio. I do make several trips out there a year though, my next most likely over winter or spring break.

He’s the second or third owner. He buys fairly nice cars when they’re a few years old, taken care of, and don’t have too many miles. Then he typically drives them until they start having little things go wrong. Then he sells them, and starts over with something newer and fresher. Therefor, it’s not a long-term relationship with this cars.
Just curious why won’t he have the car for long? he’s the original owner?

This is my dad’s car- and he just had the oil changed by the dealer recently. I’d do a video on it given the chance though! Sorry we can’t help with this one yet. :/
Great video. I was trying to find something like this on youtube and i believe you are the first one with a video on the e60. It would be great if you could do some more videos on the e60, i will be making an oil change on my pretty soon and have seen how to do it on the boards but nothing on you tube. I belive they have 2 bolts on the bottom one for the oil pan and one more some where else. Im not sure but it would be great if you know anything about that and give me some feedback. You rock!

Yeah, we did on the other three actually. For filming I guess we removed it to show the piston.
No, I doubt he’ll have this car for that long. And, it’s amazingly expensive to do that upgrade.

You can keep the old pad on the caliper when compressing the piston. Makes it easier as you have a bigger surface for the clamp to compress and it reduces the risk of hurting the piston.
