This is a quick time lapse video of me replacing the solenoids on my 2004 545i transmission valve body. Sorry, I had the resolution set as high as it would g…

to allen adam: It may be, but is tough to say for sure. Any errors
codes? How many miles are on the car? Transmission oil ever changed?

Andy G says:

hello there, im having error codes: 4E87(solenoid valve 4, shift lock) and
4F8A(Ratio monitoring, gearshift 4-5)
How can I tell wich solenoids these are?

Jacob Watts says:

I just watched that cream hoodie getting dirtier and dirtier lol. But good
vid

Christopher Ross says:

How do I know which solenoid kit to purchase? I have a 2005 545i

Victor Reyes says:

Hello I have a 2002 325ci
Error code P0963
Preassure solenoid
Is this a fix I can do or do I need a special tool to do this.
I ordered all the solenoids
Might as well replace all since I’ll be down there.
Thank you

Andrew May says:

Schpenxel, I have a 2005 530i which has never had the fluid changed
(because it was supposed to be “lifetime”). It will not shift with medium
to hard acceleration when trying to merge into traffic. I dont have any
problems with reverse and havent had any transmission codes come up.
What’s your opinion on what to replace? I bought a new pan and replaced
the fluids and it still isnt right

Gintaras Liksa says:

does it need to take of valve body to replace solenoids?

beinggood4U says:

Thanks for the video. My BMW 740iL is throwing a code for the transmission
clutch Soleniod. That portion is what I was most interested in. I cannot
find much on replacement of this, all I really know is you have to remove
the transmission oil pan to get to the solenoid. When I call for solenoilds
I’m told the transmission is going and I need a new transmission. Is this
true? The car runs great!

Tim Middleton says:

Hey man I have the same thing that I need to do on my 760 my question is
once you drop the mechatronic unit is there anything on the top like
bearings or anything that need to be put back in place before you put it
back or is there nothing on top?

bianchina ignazio says:

thanks for video
I have a problem with a 6 hp 26 X . In sequential works well but in
automatic shift to the fifth and not enter the sixth. that part I have to
look?
thanks a lot
best regards

schpenxel says:

I wouldn’t say I still have the problem. It was never a major issue on
mine. Does the car stop as smooth some others? No. But it’s not like head
jerking harsh every time I stop or anything

zech007 says:

I remembered when i did my 5hp30 (older 5 speed zf AT) valve body rebuild,
i tore down and replaced every gasket, plunger springs and solenoids,
procedure you did to remove the VB and solenoids looks pretty much the
same. Great Job, and way to go for ignoring the lifetime fluid BS!

schpenxel says:

Need to know the actual code before I can venture a guess

elektrolytedjs says:

I followed your posts on the forum and you are a wizard! I am having the
exact same problems to an extent where it’s not tolerable anymore (slow,
whiplash-like shift 2-3 and surging at 37 mph, slow reverse gear etc.), it
feels like I have to drive the car way too carefully now. I have few DIY
experience, no tools and no garage, but I would love to do it – seems I
just gotta find an indy who is willing to do it for me. Thank you so much
for posting this anyways

bluenotz says:

hello, i have the zh 6hp26 in my 2006 range rover hse, will this work for
changing the tranny fluid? How fluid to eplace in tranny change? thanks

saenb18 says:

Sup bro nice video hey I have a question my tranny went in to limp mode car
is a 545i and its throwing a code it’s something about pressure solenoid
low circuit any idea’s thanks

Michael Teague says:

What mileage was on the transmission when you did this I called a local BMW
shop and they said changing the fluid will cause transmission to go out
because of the “LIFETIME” fluid supposedly used. How many success stories
are you aware of in regard to this fix?

louisrei says:

Nice work! Thank you for sharing this. My E60 has 90k miles, and it starts
to have slams while shifting. I am afraid, sooner or later, I might need to
do some similar work to it.

E39M5SPEED says:

What issues did you have prior to this job. I have a slipping 2nd gear and
3rd gear slipping. Do you think that doing what you did will help?

Danny G says:

Hello I wonder if we could have a chat about my auto box as I’m having a
few issues and it seems you really know your stuff. Mine is the gm 5 speed
on an e46 which is diff to yours but it seems the basic principles will be
the same. If you wouldn’t mind commenting on here to reply it would be a
great help. Danny

HockeyStayer123 says:

My car is an 04 545i with steptronic, I’ve been having the same exact
issues your car had. I have absolutely no idea also where or how I could be
able to access the INPA. If its a program I can download on the computer,
if you would be so kind to please let me know how to get that program. Ill
definitely be giving these guys a call to get the kit. I’m also hoping my
local Indy shop can do it.

valuemenuproduction says:

I just checked and the prices are not bad. All I have it the slight jerk
between 30-40 mph, it feels as if the car is running out of gas but not as
drastic. Do you think it’s ok to drive the car like that for a while. I
rarely cruise those speeds?

saenb18 says:

Coo thanks bro

schpenxel says:

I’m not sure what you’re asking exactly. I THINK the oil pans are different
for the range rover version of the transmission though. You could email
thectsc.com for more information. He knows a lot more about these
transmissions than me

connieeckhardt says:

hey! if you like and have a question just text me! at 818 679 8223! im a
german master tek for zf and mbz tranys!

valuemenuproduction says:

Hi, my car hiccups between 30-40 mph. Alot of users on the forums say after
the valve body gets replaced the issue goes away. What your opinion on the
issue?

GatSupport says:

Hey dude, I have a GS6S53BZ. Do you have any idea where I could get a
solenoid kit for it?

schpenxel says:

These are new as far as I know. They ship directly from ZF. You don’t have
to change anything else on the valve body to do this, just the solenoids
(they have seals built on them). You DO need to change the seal between the
valve body and oil pump though. Message me if you need more info.

Michael Teague says:

Hey Brother can you text me 512-677-9195

connieeckhardt says:

hey! you my read at thihs pont but not for long! the megatronic is not a
big deal!as long if you not have selector problems! but only if you have
e-shift!!!! the computerbord is not to bye separed! new but adourlebel from
a used one!

saenb18 says:

Code was p0966

Gokidd2008 says:

Are you in So Cal?

schpenxel says:

Opposite Coast! (NC)

schpenxel says:

SMG is a completely different beast. I highly doubt it even has the same
solenoids shown here as it’s basically a manual transmission with automatic
clutch/shifting, completely different from a “regular” auto transmission.
What are your issues?

HockeyStayer123 says:

Hey man i got a few questions. Is your car a sport package with steptronic
transmission? If yes that’s great, could you give me the part number for
this whole set? Also when you said that you have to reset the tranny, is it
difficult to do or is it something that the stealership would have to do.
or does it have to be reset at all? thanks for any hepl

HockeyStayer123 says:

Awesome, thanks hopefully since I’m experiencing all the same problems you
were I think it should all get fixed. Hopefully the INPA isn’t a Pita to
understand

Sergej Balakin says:

Did you have problem when gear goes down from 2 to 1, after full stop. Was
there any kick after full stop or before full stop?
