if something has been changed and the dot illuminates then the only way to get rid of it is to override the tamper dot through the OBC which isn’t hard to do HOWEVER. when overriding the OBC on the mileage then the computer will read all 3 memory’s of mileage and will find the one with the highest number and reset the odometer to the highest value.

jtorcon says:

if you think the cluster has been changed then the Tamper dot would be illuminated BMW has 3 locations were the miles readings are kept. Odometer, Key memory and then another computer which monitors the miles at the wheels. when the car starts up it checks all three readings to make sure everything is the correct number of miles, if something is off or something has been changed then the tamper dot will light up in your dash cluster which is part of the digital odometer (cant be changed)

Pool Liner says:

AcousticHills says:

Hello, the part number is 62-11-1-375-774-M97. Autozone might be able to get them, not sure. I got mine from the dealership, but order them from pelican parts online. They are OEM and cheaper priced!

NineTeen88s says:

would you know what size are the green ones? would i be able to buy them at auto zone?

AcousticHills says:

its one of the ones along the bottom. just pull out a bulb and shine a flashlight through the hole of the removed bulb. Look at the other side while doing it and you’ll see which one was removed.

AcousticHills says:

You are welcome 🙂

LiftMasterTim says:

I didn’t know about the tab you have to push in on the plugs and I accidentally broke it lol. At least it was a junkyard car. It was a 92 325i

AcousticHills says:

Hello, No, they are regular.

AcousticHills says:

Your welcome. Sorry I’m not sure, I didnt have to do mine yet… But when I do I’ll be sure to post.

AcousticHills says:

Are the cluster bulbs of a e36 T10?

bwil17 says:

Where can I purchase bulbs for my e36

vegeta010587 says:

Thanks for your help!

AcousticHills says:

Yes you can. Just pull ’em out lol. I highly recommend NOT doing it tho… ESPECIALLY the brake and check engine light…

vegeta010587 says:

Hello one question when I remove the cluster can I get rid of the check engine light, air bag light, and brakes light?

AcousticHills says:

Hey, thanks! I’m happy it helped.

runningnosejoe says:

I thought the video not informative enough at first. But after I opened it up, all your instructions and recomendation filled the blanks for me. Especially the tiny tab at the back of the connectors which I’ll surely miss. And using a minus screwdriver to push the clip up while one finger pressing the tab. Thanks a lot for the headstart.

MarkACurtis says:

thank you, i got her now! and passed inspection!

AcousticHills says:

Sorry about the late reply. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it so you can rotate the steering wheel. Make sure that your battery is disconnected—if you turn on the ignition with the gauge cluster disconnected, the air bag computer will sense a fault and will trigger the air bag warning lamp which can only be reset by a special tool. You should be able to slide it by with the wheel turned. Hope it helps!

MarkACurtis says:

my steeling wheel is in the way? and i cant seem tofind how to adjust it???? does it even adjust? i got a 92 318is

AcousticHills says:

Your welcome, glad it helped 🙂
Haha, another 8″ or so would have been nice too for those wires, if only the engineers and mechanics could work together when they build vehicles… Sounds like the design is just a little different on yours then it is mine. my cluster slid right out 😉 Thanks for that tip tho, never hurts to be more careful.

Urbane Gorilla says:

Thanks for the video! What a pain..And yes, I have large hands. If the cheap Germans had added another 8″ to the wiring it would have been a lot easier. ;=)

I also needed a flat piece of flexible plastic ( I used a 6″ X 10″ scrap of Lucite ) to act as a shoe horn when pulling the cluster past the steering wheel on my 1998 323ci. Without it, the cluster was large enough to damage the dashboard around the cluster opening as you drag it past the steering wheel.

AcousticHills says:

Thanks, Im happy to help!

AcousticHills says:

Hello. Yes it is the same as a normal e36. part numbers are 62-11-1-391-260-M97 and 62-13-1-383-311-M97. I’m not too sure if LEDs will work. I think the low resistances in the LEDs might cause a problem. Tho, i know you can upgrade the whole gauge clusters with different color lights and backgrounds. it would involve taking it all apart but would look amazing.
Thanks

Rubble says:

Would this be the same as a normal e36? and What are the exact part bulb numbers to fit in properly for the gauge cluster? Is there a possibility for LED to work on them?

Thanks!

AcousticHills says:

the e39 is a little different. here’s a guy who shows you how. just copy and paste this to the youtube search:
“BMW E38, E39 speedometer / instrument cluster removal instructions from the dashboard”

性 交 says:

Would this be the same on an e39?

Sammy Sam says:

great video it teach me a lot my check engine bulbs light went away too

AcousticHills says:

Hello,
the parts numbers are 62-11-1-391-260-M97 and 62-13-1-383-311-M97. You can get them anywhere. Pelican parts .com has them for cheap.

pwrby2zz says:

AcousticHills says:

Your welcome. Glad I can help 🙂
