Hi Han, I just finished up fixing the X5 last night. Turns out the water pump went bad, froze up, and that is what threw the belts off. cracked the pulley as well.

I put on a new pulley, tension pulleys, belts, fan clutch, and water pump. Runs like a champ now. Again thanks for the video. gave me all the confidence I needed to get the job done. Saved a ton of money doing it myself as well.

Take care, and keep the videos coming.

Thank you for this video.

MrBrandon7691 says:

Do all fans already come unbolted or just yours as you didn't seem to undo the fan yet it slid straight out also slid straight in and didn't do it up or just forgot to show that.. Grate video though helped me out big time thanks

Quartz Nation says:

is it ok to just change the pulley on the tensioner instead of the entire mechanical tensioner?

Krzysztof Cygan says:

I think the upper pulley has a notch on the back that was not shown that needs to fall into place before you tighten the bolt when reinstalling? By the way, great video.

It's amazing how many people on YouTube messed this DIY up with poor camera angles and lighting, spending way too much time talking uneccessarily and cutting out the re-installation.

Yours however was nice and clear, especially appreciate seeing both the hydraulic and spring tensioners off the car so I can see the bolt locations and sizes if I need to remove them (I don't know which one I have yet).

Thanks.
