I made this video quite some time ago, but I never had time to edit it properly so it has been dormant on a hard drive for some time. The pursuit of perfecti…

Of course, if it were a Japanese car it wouldn’t need 50 wires going to the
Light Control module… in fact it probably wouldn’t have a light module
because most of the new Japanese cars I’ve seen still don’t tell you if a
light is burned out!? O.o

dregenius says:

Brian, you mentioned that plug on the back of the instrument cluster isn’t
the easiest type (they’re called “ELO Connectors” I believe), but I’ve
found that once you get used to how they work they save your fingers from a
LOT of trauma compared to Japanese connectors… They use a gear mechanism
so that the lever actually pulls the plug out for you. The 50-pin ELO that
BMW uses on the LCM would need a crowbar if it were a Japanese car! 🙂

Hey I watched the whole video. Good Information. Would this tutorial work
for a 1995 525i also??

Guess I am not going to get a BMW until I become rich. What a pain just to
replace the blower motor..

Usernameinvalid16 says:

This. is. why. I. do. not. buy. Imports! They never think of how hard
Repairs are going to be! Anyways great video as always Brian! Cheers man!

Hasan Raza says:

Wow, that is a lot of work to get access to a blower motor. Cool design
though ; )

team0blackmanner says:

Lol the battery is in the trunk!

TrueBlueEG8 says:

German cars, over priced , unreliable , poorly designed , pig to work on ,
rubbish.

briansmobile1 says:

Thanks- you’re nice. I never know what I’ll be working on next either!
Today I welded up a delicate TORO commercial mower grass catcher. ???????

motorman1700 says:

Good video Brian. when you disconnect the battery, should you use a memory
saver battery for the car?

elic123456 says:

ohhh wow lots of work, it was much easier on my e34. All from under the
hood ….

briansmobile1 says:

Exactly. No warranty on the labor if the part fails.

Yasin Ozcelik says:

Nice blower job 🙂

dave1135 says:

Note to self, NEVER buy one of these, or if i do, make sure i’m rich enough
to pay someone to do this, or just buy a new car…..

briansmobile1 says:

Too true

bash5995 says:

I love watching your videos, they are always full of useful information and
I never know what you will be working on next.

carabela125 says:

Seems anachronistic for a sophisticated automobile to waste energy with the
resistors just to slow the motor. I suppose they serve a purpose when you
want warm air.

briansmobile1 says:

It’s not a bad idea. I typically don’t.

Upallnight says:

Another BMW owner with Champagne taste on a beer budget salary. Hopefully
you don’t waranty parts that people get from a junkyard. Did the blower
motor for my Audi last year, but I brought a new one since I didn’t want to
tear apart the dash again to replace an old motor from the junkyard.

mrjost55 says:

Do you consider Japanese cars, imports? They’re much easier to work on and
they barely ever fail this badly.

ncrdisabled Submarine vet says:

Man I bought a 2006 scion xa after a guy killed my car by slamming into it
in the rear at 70mph . Trunk was is the back seat. It was a 1991 toyota
camry I bought 20 years ago taught my 2 kids to drive it . That car was so
easy to work on . I can only do oil change on my scion xa . I know those
BMW are very hard to work on > Even a oil change on those is a real pain in
the ass.

headlightdog says:

thanks for taking the time to do this for us..

Ken Rhodes says:

Hey! Where’s Spanky? Or was this made pre-Spanky?

Upallnight says:

If you’re going to go through the effort to replace a blower motor, why
would you put in a use part from the junkyard?

Zore Zmith says:

it only good when it new

Valde3333 says:

Putting a resistor in series with motor is the most reliable way of slowing
it. And it’s not as wasteful as he sais on video. If fan is running at ¼ of
full power whole system is using ½ of full power.

ClarkusAurelius says:

strap that camera to your head

charliebmoify says:

Germán engineering @ its worst!

briansmobile1 says:

BECAAAAAAAAUSE…. The BMW owner supplied it!

Upallnight says:

Are they still imports if they are assemble in Tennessee?

s0nnyburnett says:

Couldn’t they have just put it in the passenger footwell?

CanBoChoChet says:

Hopefully I wont have to do this on my 525. It be more than 8 hrs of labor
for me. Good vid Brian. Hope you will have more Bavarians espec. e39, than
Subies 😉

briansmobile1 says:

It was filmed pre Spanky.
