BMW 330i 325i E46 Common Repair Steps DIY

Whenever you do just about any job on an E46 3-series BMW, such as my 2002 330i, you have to do at least some of these at the beginning of every repair job. I figured I’d do a video that just contained all of these steps in case you are unfamiliar with any of them. This video should help get you up to speed and comfortable with what I call “the usual suspects” on the E46 such as:

Jacking up the car
Removing the air scoop
Removing the fan & fan shroud
Removing the micro filter and filter housing
Removing the engine covers
Removing the air filter box
Removing the upper intake boot
Removing the DISA valve, also called the Intake Adjuster Valve
Removing the heat shield that protects the brake booster & electronics box area
Removing the lower intake boot
Removing the accessory belts

I used the rebuild kit from German Auto Solutions to rebuild my DISA valve:

I have a 04 325CI my car cranks but won’t start. I already had the DME redone. Fuel pump is fine. Just don’t know why it won’t start?

PLAGUE says:

Hey, the "fan wrench & pulley holder" link doesn't work anymore. Is there an alternative?

Thank you for all the videos you have made. I keep on following your chanel for a year and I have a question to ask you and hope you can help me about it. My car is 2002 BMW 323i with M52TU. I had a problem with fuel regulator and I replaced it already. And I found that the hose that connect to the fuel regulator need to be replaced too. But I don't know where it's end up with. I can't see it. Would you my showing me how to replace it, please? Thank you in advance.

@10:06 I’m dealing with majorly stripped screw right there. Any idea how to safely extract that? I’m trying to continue with your ccv + intake removal vid but am currently stuck here. Have been for a while unfortunately :/ don’t know what to do

Thanks for this and all your other useful videos. After replacing the gas cap, the EVAP purge solenoid and still getting the P0455 EVAP system leak detected, I bought a smoke machine and did a test, and noticed the leak is coming from the Disa Valve. The leak is from the little circular part that has the hole. https://share.icloud.com/photos/03h_b7I4PhhZQepp275s-Qnmw

Does this mean I have to buy a new one of these or is there a way to fix it? I had used a repair kit and rebuilt it a couple of years ago and barely driven it. I did the little vacuum test where you hold yoru finger over that hold while holding the flapper and then letting go and it moves about 20 degrees or maybe a bit more, but not all the way. Thanks.

Very well done!

Everything on a bmw E46 is easy and self explanatory, alot simplier than most cars, everything is easy access, only problem im having with mine is the nut thats on the clutch that holds the fan in place, acts like its seized, I beat the hell out of my wrench and even with a hammer, even with the specialty tool it acts like the water pump want to turn with it too, and yes I know its reverse thread and I am doing it the proper way, that nut is stuck, I wanna eventually change it to the electric fan that the manuals come with, so much easier than that clutch bs, I dont know why bmw didn't just transfer all the e46s to a electric fan, im trying to fix a coolant leak, have all the parts, radiator, upper hose, O rings, and expansion tank, even went to the ends of buying a master 60 piece torx kit and a hex kit for my socket wrench, I wanna get this done before it starts to get cold out

9:48 If you drop one of these brake heat shield clips into never-never land, you'll probably never find it because it's plastic and your magnet won't help. The part number to replace it is 51718204904. It took me the better part of an hour to hunt this down when my firewall clip disappeared.

Baerli Official says:

@50sKid – Thanks so much for these videos, I was wondering, You mentioned getting the DISA out that you should be careful not to drop the pin down into the intake? Is that only if the pin itself has broken and there's a rattle? Or should you be really cautious removing the DISA regardless? I kinda want to do the rebuild but I'm a bit worried about dropping the pin into the intake.

Antwan Padilla says:

Hey 50sKid, I'm about at my wits end here. Bought a BMW years ago. Been keeping it going along throwing money at it but now I have reached an impasse.

Car starts fine when cold but when heated up electronics turn on but motor will not try to crank.

Okay, no problem.

List of attempts to resolve the issue:

1:Battery good, try new: no luck.
2:New battery, try coil packs: nope.
3:New packs and battery, try new starter: nope.
4:New coil packs and battery and starter, try new ignition switch: nope.
5:I dunno 50sKid, any ideas?

Car is a 2003 E46 330ci Manual Transmission 178k miles.

Still drives good when she starts.
