Just replaced my battery on a 2007 328x. The only thing I need to do is to set the clock. Everything else works as before. The only other thing I needed to do is to remove the right angle vent connector and reinstall it on the new battery.

lloydnyerssaunders says:

do you have a screen in the dash or just the basic orange dot display? you do have to tune your stations back in after disconnecting the battery

Isaac Karkar says:

Hi I replaced my bmw 318i 2005 battery and the radio stopped working. Any help

andrew ortiz says:

it might need to be taken to bmw i had to do that

lloydnyerssaunders says:

by what im hearing from the guys in the comments section it works without registration - provided the replacement was a similar spec to the old one. if youre changing the specs of the battery to more or less than whats already in there you may have some issues.

Derek McClanahan says:

After replacing the battery are there any other issue to deal with…i.e. resetting the electrical or registering whatever that is. I feel good about popping a battery out and in but am worried because this is no ford.

lloydnyerssaunders says:

try spraying a propellant like brake cleaner into the intake- if its splutters like its trying to start then you know the injectors arent being pulsed, so more than likely your crank angle sensor or ews control unit has an issue. also you could try changing the battery in your key if you have keyless entry

Andre Lindsay says:

i have a 2008 335i it cranks but wont start.i checked the fuel relay its not that what can it be?

aseem poudel says:

Thanks for the video ..

lloydnyerssaunders says:

it would work- provided the replacement was a similar spec to the old one

Nick Engasser says:

If I were to put a new battery would It work or would the computers in the car need to be restarted?

lloydnyerssaunders says:

it could also be a seized engine- seen that before… but let hope not hey

lloydnyerssaunders says:

probably starter if youre sure you connected the jumper cables properly. i usually confirm this using an amps clamp around the battery negative cable- there should be around 30 amps when youre trying to crank. if there are its definitely the starter motor, and not the key/igniton/battery/etc

David Hunt says:

Thanks for your video! My car wont start… when i push start button it clicks like the solenoid is working but no crank. Factory batteyr is still in it from 2006 and although it still reads 13.6v when key is engaged it still only clicks the relay when connected to another car to jump battery. Radio, lights, etc all still work with key engaged so battery is not completely dead. Starter or battery?

lloydnyerssaunders says:

have you done the starter on your 325 yet mate?

lloydnyerssaunders says:

most scanners dont have the function- its a bmw speciality called ‘Battery Registration’, but if you read the comments below there have been many guys getting away with not doing it and they dont have any issues afterward. try to keep everything the same though- buy a bmw battery with the same AH and CCA readings and you should be sweet. let me know how you go

Ayman Ayash says:

hi again, i took my car to the dealership and they told me that a new battery replacement cost around $420. i asked if i could just get one and Do it myself, they said the battery must be programmed and introduced to the ecu to prevent overcharging. but $400 is just too much for me. the car’s battery is literally dead right now. any help please! can I just replace it and have a mechanic with a professional scanner do it?
thanks

high praise is always nice, but im no expert. i understand what youre trying to do though and i cant really think of an ignition wire that would be near to the boot. if youve got navigation or a cd stacker in the back i’d start by checking there. regarding your meter turn it to beep so you can check continuity- thats what id do personally to quickly check if a wire is connected but suit yourself mate, what ever works

SAJ@TV says:

As u knw im installin the split chargin relay switch. I need a 12v wire which only gets active while engine is started or alternator is active. To triger the relay. It is like ignition 12v. Only when alternator is ON. U seems expert. U must already know how split relay switchs works. They need 12v triger.

SAJ@TV says:

Firstly many thx for kind reply. I got multimeter. But dono how to check as in ohms? Like wot reading i will see in mm? I knw how to check ohms but.dono wot ohm i shud expect to find tht wire? Cant i jus check on ac volts? Like in off engine nd thn engine on? Will show me 12v in engine on nd 0v in engine started? Shall i do tht to check all the wires comin from top of the battery? As ac volts?

lloydnyerssaunders says:

good question. if i remember correctly one of the cables that comes out of battery junction area (on top of the battery) goes to the alternator. one goes to the VVT, one goes to the front JBE/fusebox combo, one goes to the starter motor and im pretty sure one goes to the alternator you’ll just have to check which one it is with a multimeter on ohms.

SAJ@TV says:

very helpfull video really is.. thanks for upload man.. you are a star…..

i got a question bro… do you know where is the alternator wire in bmw 3 series? that is coming to battery? is it also passing through trunk by any chance?

actually i am installing secondry battery and a split charging replay switch. i am looking for a alternator charging wire 12v which comes from alternator to battery?

by any chance is that wire somewhere in trunk too?

please help.

many thanks.

lloydnyerssaunders says:

thats the stuff mate- i havent had much luck with that method on bmw’s specifically but it cant hurt to give it a go. let me know how you go

IAreJaycup says:

I have got an amp reader, but I’ve also used the ‘Beat the fuck out of it’ method before 😉 and yea. Believe under the 5 and 6th runners, if i’m not mistaken.

lloydnyerssaunders says:

no worries mate- if you check the output amps when trying to crank it like i suggested you’ll have an answer. if you havent got an amps clamp and you just want to try something quick use a metal bar (id use either 1/2 inch or 3/8 inch extension bar) to tap strongly on the large part of the starter motor while someone else tries to crank it. doing this sometimes loosens up the internals of the starter and allows it to start. pretty sure your models starter is under the intake manifold
