Yes offcourse , longlife and nothing else because the interval of 30.000. I
believe that now 5w-30 longlife in the engine is. Whats the difference
about 5w-40 and 5w-30

BMW 3 Series says:

You need Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel 5W-40 Longlife. Nothing else. It’s
double price from what you else can find, but thats what BMW specify. Dont
use longlife for gasoline engine, it has to be for diesel and it has to be
longlife to match the service interval. You will soon find out not many
dealers is having this oil, but thats what you should go for

Sirvac Yerqer says:

i have a bought a e46 2004 320d 150hp. its has run now 230.000 km. wich oil
do i need ? you are using 0w-40 and dealership is saying 5w-30 or 5w-20

BMWPOWERization says:

The E46 looks much more robust than the E36 IMHO. I would put in the
Signature Motoring performance intake kit for only around $150 and gain up
to 13HP on the stock output for the 330i and a bit less for the 325 and
328. I highly recommend this item, see my youtube channel for the action
video on it. -Installs in round 45min. -Guaranteed HP increase -Induction
sound to die for -Awesome fit/finish. See my video of how it sounds AND
performs!

BMW 3 Series says:

I get around 16-17 Km/L…..the board computer mess up if you chip tune it.
I may show better fuel ecconomy but it actually is getting a bit worse

BMW 3 Series says:

Please note that longlife oil for a Diesel cost x 2 compared with longlife
oil for a gasonline engine. Is really hard to find Castrol fully synthetic
longlife oil for diesel engines in most shops. OK I can find it on the net,
but then they will charge med 20 Euro for shipping. 6 liters isnt enough,
you need 6.5 liters (so you need to buy 7) the last ½ liter can be used for
next engine service or for topping up with oil. I prefer doing EVERYTHING
my self on the car 🙂

BMW 3 Series says:

lol, I forgot to bring them with me when I drove to the DIY shop. Same with
the funnel. But no issue, since I don’t work with cars every day. Its very
rare I have oil on my hands.

antizionist786 says:

You want 5.5 litres

BMW 3 Series says:

My diesel is born with turbo charger. So increasing the BHP and torque is
easy and cheap. 30% increase cost around 100 USD. My 150 BHP can be
modified to 180 BHP and 400 Nm torque, so you dont want to chose expensive
solutions like changing intakes, cam shafts, ect……a new chip will do it.

BMW 3 Series says:

One a diesel is a bit different. The new oil gets totally black after < 500 miles, so if you stay to Castrol and change the oil as specified, you will be fine. The expected lifetime on a diesel engine is double compared with a gas engine. 600.000 miles or more is no problem, due to the low RPM on the engine and due to extra large bearings because diesel higher compression. I use the 0.5 Liter for topping off, if needed. Normally it doesn't need topping but if driven agressive if might need extra

BMW 3 Series says:

6.5L and oil level will be at the top mark on the stick.

Marco Antonio says:

usa um funil para colocares o oleo 😉

Nicole Dickerson says:

Great video! Thanks!

jwmpayne says:

I’ve got an e46 320d 2005 and to change the oil will only be 5.5 litres of
0w-40 castrol.

amyamypinares says:

Use a fckng gloves

stalensnuitje says:

Thanks for your video. Most amazing thing for me is the number on your
board computer when you turn on the ignition: 20.2km/L??? I hardly get
15.3…

Alexander Rosado says:

Good video. Do you have one for a 2002 330xi? Its a different motor than
what you just showed.

staff says:

fantastic video but one thing confuses me as to your 320d facelift goes
150PS 6.5 liters of oil when the catalog goes on 5,5 l and with the amount
on the meter is in the normal to slightly above the middle? I cuttlefish
cuttlefish and 5.5 L Castrol Edge 5w 40 gold my car has crossed 220,000 km
and works fine with this oil only because I can change it to 11000km.Ne
spends even a little bit of altering to altering.

BMW 3 Series says:

The diesel need a lot of oil. I guess it because of the turbo, which makes
it more likely to have a bit of consumption between oil changes. The diesel
engine oil is also double price compared with gas engines. But ok I can
drive 22.000 Km on the same oil

DefianceCinemaa says:

what i do is i cut in half one of the empty qquart of oil like the bottom
and just stick the part with the cap but you obviously take it off into the
engine

ThorAxeTheThunder says:

for everyone who wants to know it: the socket size of the bolt and the
needed torque at 8:52 its 17 and 25 Nm of torque.

teebeaubobo says:

I think they charge about 190€ for oil service at BMW on a 320d, where it
cost you 6.5×15+18=115€ and the satisfaction of doing it yourself! 🙂
Actually, I think that now on the internet you can find 6 liters of Castrol
5w40 (bmw longlife-04) for about 50-60€

BMW 3 Series says:

I normally use a funnel, but I forgot to bring it with me. The DIY shop is
~ 1 miles from my home, so I could either walk back, drive back or just try
without. I chose the last option. The shop is shared with 800 members, so
you have to bring your own tools with you. People steal what isnt fixed to
the shop. If I drive back, someone else might come and put me back in the
que. So planning a repair is vital in terms on tools.

Dan rod says:

with the price of oil, cant afford gloves, Great Video btw!

Stefan B says:

I would use that 0.5l of extra oil to flush the old oil away before putting
in the new one 🙂
