Thanks for posting this video… I own a 2006 750Li and assume the process
is somewhat similar- correct?

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello Christian, This is not needed as your radio and vehicle presets will
not be lost. You will have to set the time and date and turn the steering
wheel lock to lock but you should not lose any vehicle information. You can
use small voltage charger but you have to make sure you do not contact the
positive cable to any ground.

Phil Nixon says:

very informative

AskTheCarExperts says:

Slightly different. Still need a vehicle to do this video. Your battery is
accessed by removing the spark tire. Also you need to take off the jack and
under this is a cover to access the top of the battery. There is one hold
down in the bottom left corner. Unhook the top of the battery pos. and neg.
Remove the hold down in the trunk and slide the battery out to the side to
remove and replace. If you make a video I would love to post it 🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

Most batteries are maintenance free so there will not be any access to
refill. This warning can come on due to a weak battery or if there is a
drain from a component called a parasitic draw. If the amperage exceeds
80milli amps after 1 hour this message will set. You may need a draw test
to see if this is a failure in a component in the vehicle.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, The safety battery terminal is the positive side of the battery
which is a pyrotechnic device that is fired in even of certain accidents.
If you have other faults relating to high voltage then the most common
failure is the alternator on this model causing over voltage spikes. Take a
good look at the positive cable at the battery and the airbag connection.
If you did any work there it may be a wiring problem to the BST.

thank you for the video very informative. any comment on DURALAST
GOLD/battery 95R DLG as replacement.

Thanks for the info, Another thing, is it a big deal if the battery goes
dead? I have the vehicle stored for the winter and do not have it on a
charger, I didn’t flip the “conserve” switch in/near the fuse box… Will
this be an issue come spring (April) when I take it out of storage? I have
read several different posts, some say it’s a big deal, others say just
charge it up.

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello James, Thanks for the great comment. I am glad my video helped.
Baking soda is the best way to clean up battery acid. It really can be a
mess when a battery fails like this!

Edwin Tin Oo says:

Very nice and clear cut explanation was given but a little bit of
adjustment of the camera movement will show the professionalism. But anyway
thank you for the information.

faheemf1 says:

Dont you have to register the Battery with the car? I thought after any
battery replacement the BMW dealer has to reprogram for the new battery.

SFZ Battery Safety Terminal Voltage Too High Something> Do You Have Any
Idea What This Could Be??? Thanks In Advance

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, Programming would only be needed if you are changing the type or
rating of the battery. Such as going from a lead acid battery to an AGM
battery or changing from say a 90 amp hour to a 110 amp hour. This tells
the alternator how to charge. Also the battery can be logged in using the
BMW tester to tell the vehicle it is new but usually this does not effect
functionality. This is more of an internal battery log.

Christian Gutierrez says:

Thanks for making this look easy to do. I’m getting ready to change my
(white) Lead battery for 2008 550i. Question: Did you connect to a memory
saver and/or plug into a small voltage charger to save the onboard data
before you took out the old battery? Or all that is not to worry?

Bamidbar Moore says:

Great movie! Question for u I have an M6 2008 I went to a mechanic today
and he told me I need to change alternator and battery now for thr battery
he ask another 150$ for “programming” my question for u is does he really
need to program after putting a new battery? And how long does it take that
he’s charging me so much… ? I he’d 645 before and I replaced the battery
myself and no programming or anything like that was necessary

AskTheCarExperts says:

Thanks for the comment. BMW expert = yes. Camera expert = no 😉

Plamen Stanev says:

Hi, I have my original battery, about 4 years old( 528xi 2009). The car
starts without the problem, but sometime I get message saying that
discharge occurred when engine is off. I’m suspecting that the electrolyte
is low in the battery. Can I put distilled water?

AskTheCarExperts says:

Hello, Letting a battery discharge creates a sulfation of the internal
plates leading directly to battery failure. The battery can will then look
normal when charged but deplete very quickly. This can also lead to the
alternator having to constanly charge the battery which in turn can lead to
an alternator failure. Definately keep your battery fully charged. 🙂

AskTheCarExperts says:

Thanks for watching 🙂 Just make sure it has the vent to be installed as
the gassing during charging can cause problems due to corrosion on the
battery terminals and IBS sensor. But it should work fine. I have heard it
is a good battery. I think they do have the vent hole as well.

James Neilson says:

Thank you so much for posting. I had to change my battery when my original
blew up from over charging. It was a huge mess. I had to use baking soda to
clean up all the batter acid.

AskTheCarExperts says:

You only need to program if you are changing battery types from a white to
a black AGM battery. The registration is a battery log for the vehicle so
there may be a code stating to replace the battery. Only on new vehicles
does it need to be registered to remove the battery warning light.
