100% agree with the spark plug wires point. I only changed it on one of my cars in the past, but never had to change them and they lasted through the life of my car.
Depends what BMW you have, If it ain't broke don't fix it.
What about the timing chain? Mine has 110K miles & the previous owner didn’t keen right track of the oil changes which worries me, my mechanic told me to hold on until it sounds or feels weird, it’s a 328I 2015, what should I do? Heard about a couple of blown engines due to the timing chain

what's your take on gas AKI/OCTANE? I recently purchased a 2021 530i xdrive. The owner's manual recommends 91, but does it hurt if I use 93 (or does it really matter)? I'd love to know your thoughts.
Hey I have a 2013 528i. It has a n20 engine. I been driving the car pretty hard lately. And now I have a drivetrain malfunction message. Very delayed throttle response. But if I put it in manual, it runs perfectly. Automatic, it’s very delayed. I think it’s the diverter valve. Cold start idle vibrates the car a lot for 5-10 minutes. Before I break the bank figuring out the problem, what do you suggest?
BAD advise on the plugs, VERY BAD, worn plugs will make the coil packs go faulty, plugs MUST BE DONE EVERY 50k, replace all for OEM only, if you dont do this expect your coil packs to go
BMW's are galvanised every German Cra I've owned has never rusted, ford gm etc are rust buckets

I was so surprised with your answer to replacing spark plugs. My 3 series is at 115k and I was thinking abt replacing but I haven’t had a misfire since I got it at 73k.

Talking common sense, sadly lacking in some people. Lets hope they learn from this.
The dealer told me I needed to replace the engine mounts. I'm skeptical because I have never been told to replace mine on any car I've owned. My current BMW is my first one, and I absolutely love it. I just don't know whether I should believe the dealer or not.
You’re completely correct. I had to replace my water pump, so I did the thermostat and ALL of the coolant hoses, any O-rings, mickey mouse flange, serpentine belt, idler pulley, tensioner. I ended up replacing the boost solenoid, OFHG and OCH.
BMWs are reliable, however American owners are not. These care are well engineered with maintenance in mind. Yes, there’s a crap ton of plastic under the hood. Those parts are cheaper to replace when they fail or when it’s time to service or replace them.
They are mostly disposable cars in North America because most BMW owners cannot work on their cars and have to pay huge labor prices and use parts that have been twice marked up, through their dealer or shop. BMWs depreciate very quickly and it only takes a few deferred maintenance items to make an older car cheaper to replace with a newer BMW than to repair.
All BMWs will need the following large maintenance items before the first 100,000 miles: water pump and Tstat, oil filter housing gasket and oil cooler gasket, valve cover and gasket, plugs and coils, serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler pulley. If you have to pay a dealer or shop to do these, you can save money by combining some of them, as said in the video.
Other general maintenance items include oil pan gasket, trans and diff fluid, brake fluid flush every 2 yrs, suspension bushings, coolant hoses, etc.

I do run the hell out of my cars but try to stay on top of the maintenance and wear on my bimmer. I love my 328i but will probably get a beater to commute to work to keep it tip top for my daughter who will be driving in a few years.
Also very important do not go full throtle on cold engine, let it run for a min or two then go slow until it is warm.

Question about the turbo tip.
I have a bmw 530e single turbo, and is a mild hybrid system and I keep it on auto which turns on the electric engine while driving and shutsdown the engine, would it be better to disable it while I'm driving for a longer distance meaning keep the engine running without turning it off by the system?
Good, down to earth, common sense video. I just picked up a 2017 BMW M2 for $18000 and the first question I asked was "What's wrong with it?" The car as a dealer serviced 1 owner documented history but it has done 138,000km's (85,000 miles) so my first question was obvious.
I know what needs to be done but it's a bit daunting because I don't want to be constantly be chasing my tail with this thing.. it could get ridiculously expensive! The basics aren't that much though so prevention is obviously better than cure!
