The 1991 Audi 200 Quattro 20V Turbo just never stops giving!!
It’s the perfect car for the THANKSGIVING Special 🙂
The fact that the old A/C system works at all is a MIRACLE!
However, the Audi has a nasty surprise in store…the original condenser is CORRODED through, and is leaking refrigerant!! Uh oh…
Luckily, the owner brought a spare aftermarket A/C condenser along, so let’s swap it in…
NOT SO FAST!! We hit yet ANOTHER road block!!
To add insult to injury, the pesky intermittent PARASITIC BATTERY DRAIN is back!!
Is this Audi EVER going to leave my shop??

Happy Thanksgiving!

Did you ever take a look at the radio circuit? On these cars, the radio should shut off after you remove the key from the ignition switch (or at least, that's how it worked on my '87 5000CS Quattro). Seems to me that the chime going off (w/ radio on) was to tell you that the key was in the ignition, not that the radio was on. Sticky key-in-ignition switch?
FOR METRIC GUYS Al melts at 660 C and the rod melts at 371 C:
Oh no! Wrecking the old original condenser radiator. At the moment Ivan came up with the torch I was shivering. And yes he burned a big hole into it. The idea with the China Alu melting sticks was okay but not that well.
There could have been another oprion: JB Weld, the black one. Or just a 2K epoxy resin strengthened with Alu powder to glue the tiny holes. May be even adding some small fibers partials to the mass would have helped too. But keep in mind that you always work with a ‘dirty’ metal.
He should have hold the Alu stick into the flame to not let the hot melting bath cool off.
JB Weld Black could have been an answer her (?).
Somehow old OEM bolts on German cars seem to stand up really well to the elements. I once removed the exhaust manifold from a mid-80's Porsche 944 and they came out with zero problems or damage…..
The owner of this POS is a sadist!
Ivan demonstrates perseverance, patience, and meticulous attention to detail.
If these cars were more fun to work on mechanics all around the world would recommend them to stay busy. 😉
Steel Stik may have easily fixed that original condenser… I have successfully fixed swiss cheese gas tanks with it… amazing stuff… doesn't hurt to try.
14:31 будь здоров.
I am dedicated to my cars however this Audi owner takes the prize. Seems this car is getting fixed no matter what. Not many people would take it so far.
This is the först time i can say you doing it wrong theths is not the raight Wat to weld it ewri steps is wrong..( you cant fix them all)
Wow must be a EBAY MISS WHAT A BRAVE NEW WORLD…….Of mis information ❤ I
The A/C job was a total mess. Stay on diagnosis. It is the only thing you know, helped by a massive dose of luck.

I like this car but does this rare Audi hold the record for PHAD episodes? I am trying to remember another vehicle that has 15 videos or more.
Audi: the gift that keeps on giving
Audi Exotic Money Pit….drive it without AC….like the good ole days….roll down 2 windows and drive 50 or better….LOL
This is no longer a bmvideo series. It's a saga. It needs an opening screen crawl like in Star Wars…..Audi Wars.
If it were me I'd send it out to a radiator repair shop!
Thanks for the video Ivan.
I hope you have a ‘restoration’ rate for this kind of work plus weekly billing.
Hopefully this is the last time this car will be here.
Anyway, Good Job Ivan.
That seemed like an easy fix for the draw. I was guessing that the grounding screw on the door switch was not making a solid contact. Typical issue. But that sucks with the condenser. The aluminum core is already really thin. But lose any of that material to corrosion and / or mechanical stripping and it becomes tin foil. Nearly impossible to fix.
Did the parasitic drain repair fix the radio staying on?
