How to repair AUDI rear licence plate mounting bracket with ZERO cost

In this video. I will be showing you how to fix your Audi A4 2016+ license plate mounts which are a common failure on these vehicles as well as many others. This fix will work on most VW or Audi Cars.

The rear licence plate bracket can be pushed out of the plastic pocket if the dealer used a power driver or someone over tightened the screw. Replacing the entire back plate is very costly around $250, this solution cost nearly nothing and do the job.

Mr. Ghoulie says:

Life savor. Cracked ones on ebay go for $30, new ones go anywhere from $40 to $150 for just the bracket. It’s insane.

cooldood1025 says:

Great method. The tolerances for those screws is extremely small. There's only room for about 3/4 turn when screwing them snug into the metal nuts (and they tend to corrode which = more friction is required), anything further risks damaging that extremely thin plastic of the mounting bracket – thus striping it out. Spraying a little WD-40 on the screw might also prevent future failures.

Zen Den says:

Where I am we have a Canadian Tire that has a replacement rear holder for $7, incl screws. Dealer can gth.

9reece says:

what kind of phillips head screws are those?

Oleg M says:

Guys, where can I buy the little brackets?

Dave Cramer says:

Had the same thing happen to me. Turns out the plate holder is ABS plastic which means you can take some ABS pipe and some acetone and make some ABS glue. It will harden just like new.

No Y says:

I had all 4 freakin brackets break. Simple solution. I put bunch of 3m double sided tape on the plate and stick it on the black panel of the plate holder. It's probably more secure than loosy brackets you stick with double sided tape.

Peter Gauthier says:

Side not, never put your plate sticker on your plate cover, someone can easily just pop the cover off your car and put it over their plate..

88spf says:

The metal bracket that the screw goes into broke on my rear plate holder. Do you know what the name of those are? I'm sure I could pick one up at home depot if I knew what to look for. Thanks!

TheOrangeGuy NA says:

thanks for the video. i am baffled why Audi had such bad design. they should know users need to be able to get to their license plates

Karina Magaña says:

Mine fell off recently, and I called dealership for the oem plate bracket nut told me it would be $150 for whole new plate bracket due to nut not being sold separate anymore. I went to a local hardware store and bought a plastic license plate nut and worked perfectly. Would recommend, just make sure it hold the bolt securely.

Joey G says:

Yeah that works, but I don't want non-automotive adhesives on my paint, I don't know what they would do to the paint long term? I flipped my bracket upside down, just the tops were stripped. I drilled some new holes for drainage and reattached. . It will certainly strip again, because it's a horrible design. Looking for more suitable replacements now. Plate is just held on with the two top screws.

michael monroe says:

What kind of screws you use to hold the plate on? I got an Audi Q7 and can’t get a screw to fit in the hole that works with the plate

Alexander Molina says:

You know what I did instead of replacing it with the metal piece I popped all 4 of them out and replaced them all with the plastic inserts you can buy at any auto store. Plus you don’t need to get special screws for them after doing this.

What The Fork Cooking Show says:

Man this just happened to me and I was looking to buy another bracket you my friend are a genius!!

dpeab11370 says:

What a piece of crap holder. I have the same issue….top right. The bracket is gone so I popped one of the 2 bottom brackets out to use. Now in have to find some good double stick tape. I refuse to pay over 100 bucks for a new holder. Ridiculous.
