Good video for replacing brake pads, but why don’t you machine/turn the rotors to give it a smooth even surface contact between the new brake pads and the rotors. This reduces the chances of uneven brake wear and brake pulsations.
No worries and thanks for the comment! I’m uploading an MAF replacement vid now, will be live in 4 hours…I’ll be doing another A4 procedure next week: Replace front CV joints and axel…
1. Thank you so very much for putting this together. I’m about to do this job and it’s priceless to see the exact procedure for my car before doing it.
2. Anyone else notice our friend here doing this entirely with one hand at the same time being cool and chill ‘trouble maker’ =D ?? You sir are a pro!
Great job and video, love that tool to compress piston, usually use a C clamp. one suggestion, leave the old pad in caliper then use comression tool, that way you wont be pushing the piston by the edge.
pretty good job. you do need to turn or deglaze the rotors tho.and when you push the caliper back in make sure to use brake cleaner to get rid of all that dirt thT way the boot wont get damage on its way in/out .and you unscrewd the power steering reservoir instead of the brake fluid, not. a hater here just some pointers to help you and your watchers save money from the ridiculous shop rates, nice clean job
Thanks man, I’ve had the light on the dash on for 8 months now.. The ones I got are Apec PAD1020. Guess i’ll know more when I get the wheel off tomorrow.
Should be the same procedure– I doubt the 02 non Quattro has rear sensors, you might just call your local dealer, connect to parts and play dumb–ask a few questions, then just buy them online, I used the EBC DP3680C Redstuff 3000 Brake Pad Set – Ceramic, Direct fit
Part #: E35DP3680C | Mfr #: DP3680C from autopartswarehouse – excellent– good luck!
Thanks for putting this up. I went to do the brakes on my wife’s Audi and was about to remove the brackets and everything. Watched your video and it was 100% easier.
Rear brake pads are different piston needs to be rewound
Should be, just no sensor on rear I think
is it the same procedure for the rear break pads?
You can just use an old pad and a c-clamp instead of your fancy brake depresser lol.
Oh my bad then :p, keep doing that DIY 🙂
Yeah I know– others saw that also ;-P, I did remove the brake reservoir cap though, just forgot to video!
Nice video :), the cap you take off is from the steering fluid reservoir :p

It’s a 7mm Hex ratchet head. Just did them today. Otherwise you strip the Hell out of them. Also don’t forget to put the spring back on lol…
need bleeding perhaps brakes?

didn’t know that, thanks! That explains why the pads I got don’t have sensors.
No worries– you’ll have to do the front also to get rid of that dash light!

I’ve got a 2002 diesel non-quattro. Is it the same procedure? I’m doing the rear pads but the ones I bought don’t have sensors I don’t think
