Audi Water Pump Replacement DIY (2008-2017 Audi MLB A4, S4, A5, S5, Q5)

►Your Audi’s water pump is one of those parts that seem as if it’s engineered to fail. On the EA888 engine, the water pump from the factory is made of plastic. Heat, vibration, and plastic aren’t known for playing nice together, over time degrading and becoming brittle. If left alone long enough, these water pumps spring leaks, dumping coolant on your driveway or in your garage. This is why Audi coolant leaks on cars with the EA888 engine are so common.

In this DIY, Aaron Davis, FCP Euro’s Audi Catalog Manager, shows us how to replace the plastic water pump on your MLB platform Audi, such as the A4, S4, A5, S5, or in the case of this video, the Q5, with an all-metal upgraded version. After you replace your plastic water pump with this all-metal version, it shouldn’t need replacement again for the life of the vehicle.

Anton Zhloba says:

There are many reviews of the metal water pumps that mention that the temp sensor and thermostat that come with the assembly are complete garbage and go bad quickly. Could you comment on that?

I literally just watched the original post lol

Michael Sackstein says:

I’m surprised you didn’t have to pull the front end off to do that job! On most modern Audis that’s unheard of!
