While I was removing the engine on this 2009 Audi A6 I noticed both axles were ripped and not looking to hot. So, in this video I’ll be showing you guys how to remove the front CV axles. It’s pretty easy unless you live in the rust belt. If you do, then the upper control arm pinch bolt will need to be replaced 9/10 times as it breaks or gets stuck very often. Your axles may be more stuck in the hub than this one as well. Here in Vegas there is nothing rusted on, it’s quite nice. If it gets stuck, put the bolt in the end and hit it with a small sledgehammer.

2:19 – As a non-mechanic I am trying to determine the cause of an oil leak in this area. I noticed that the oil is surrounding the bottom/inner side of the "Axle Shield." I dont have pictures of above the shield, as I didn't inspect that when checking out the car. Does this help pinpoint if it is in fact just the axle seal?
Thank you for this video…I am a youtube mechanic…really not an expert, but this demonstration gives me confidence 🙂 how do you replace the upper arms into their socket ? they look press fit… is there an issue or they just slide it and the bolt keeps them in place ? on the wheel side, only the central nut to remove ? There is now a tok-tok coming from the driver side, cv joint wheel end is dry, engine end is greasy on the outside. I think its the culprit….A8 D4 2013 4.0 with 150Kkm …TIA !
Hei! Did you use the same bolts for the gearbox side? I heard those are one time use.
Mine is stuck so bad I’ll have to remove at the arms and press out
So what do I do if I snap the top bolt
Anyone know where to find boots for the ones he said should be replaced once removed?
So my driver side is leaking. I’m going to replace it. Should I do the passenger side too or no?
What tools I need?
Thanks for the video. I bought a new to me 2015 S7. I've noticed on low speed right turns I hear a clicking noise. Do you think this is the part I need to replace? Previous owner said he replaced the lower control arms, bushings, and guide links. Is that apart of the CV? Some other people said it could be some loose bolts or something. Im just a diy home mechanic so my diagnosing skills suck lol.
What size is the allen head on the axle
I’m guessing you need an alignment after replacing the cv axel’s? I need to do mine as well.
Love you vid's man, helps a lot with my Audi's. And in NE Ohio this job is a Nightmare at times.
Perfect timing as always! I was planning to replace my driver's side axle soon.
