Found something that might apply… see link in PM message!

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Hi, sorry, the software that I am using does not give me any details of
this model vehicle & engine. Can you send me a picture of your engine bay
so that I can see what type of engine configuration you have (fuel
injection & distributor)? If the engine “dies” when you remove the Hall
Sensor Harness Plug from the Ignition Distributor, then you do NOT have an
engine speed (crankshaft position sensor). If you are talking about the
transmission speed sensor… which one? For the speedo needle?

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

I get off from work soon… will look-up the info then and send you a PM.

matt Batt says:

Hi I am trying to change a speed sensor on a 1996 Passat Estate 2.0L
automatic Engine code AGG..I can’t seem to find where the sensor is located
and where it plugs into on top. I have been told it is near the oil filter
(like in the video). Can you tell me where it plugs into and the location
of the plug? I could just follow it back and find the sensor and then I
would know where in tarnation it is.. Code of car WVWZZZ3AZTE073512 AGG
Hope you can help…thanks! (pics would be great/good write up

Ben G says:

So it would be inside the transmission

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

From the info I found, yes.

Ben G says:

Well how would u tell the type of transmission? I’m using a innova 3100abs
obd2 scanner and the code is p0722

Ben G says:

hi there I have an audi a4 2.8l fwd and im having a hard time to find my
output speed sensor was hoping u could help me when I start my car it reves
up all the way to the red line and dosent come down and I have a code that
says output speed sensor no circut

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

What type of automatic transmission? What’s the exact code? What scanner
are you using? Some generic scanners don’t list / see all stored codes.

Nathan says:

Haven’t checked. My VAG COM should be in my mailbox in a couple hrs. I felt
with it being 100% factory, it’s never been changed. I’m even looking into
a slightly bigger turbo to replace the factory. I had an Eclipse GSX that
the turbo went out on and it wasn’t cool being down 200 miles from home.

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Forgot to ask if you had checked for any stored fault codes… usually a
G28 Speed Sensor code is stored when they go bad.

Nathan says:

Been working on it. Not nearly as easy as it seems. All the hoses in the
way. I’m taking the oil filter off tomorrow.

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Yes, that could be the issue. At low engine speeds the signal could be too
low for the ECM to recognize (after you come to a stop / idle). If it’s the
stock sensor, 12yrs old, it’s well worth replacing.

Nathan says:

I have an ’01 TT Quattro (engine – AMU) i’m about to do this to. I drive it
around fine, then 20 min or so into it, as I’m coming off the interstate, I
go to shift into neutral and coast to the stop light. After I let off the
gas and put it in neutral, it dies and won’t start up for another 30 min or
so. I’m reading on the forums that the Crankshaft sensor (speed sensor)
gets hot and craps out. Then works fine after it cools off.

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

I didn’t add any to this video… I use a Program called Cool Edit 2000 to
generate “brown noise” (as listed in the Generate Noise Menu). It’s a 43sec
mp3 that I then stretch to the length of the video. My early efforts
incorporated background noise of Traffic & Dining Room Chatter. LOL

Vincent Borelli says:

What are you using to add the “White Noise” to the video?

bledthrew says:

Do you have a part number for the speed sensor. My mechanic says my 2002
audi a4 doesn’t have one, but im getting a code and looked in the place you
said and the sensor is missing?

mparsons113 says:

you make this look so easy. i went at it for 2 hours and couldn’t even get
the bolt off.

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

1.8 or 1.8T? US & canada only receive 1.8T engines. If you have a plain
1.8, then you might not have the engine speed sensor. I can verify one I
have the engine code (other than AMB). Generic code readers don’t always
show the correct codes.

Gidzilla El Mazinger! says:

Thank you!!! I’ve looking all over the net for the past 3 days.

Emerald Perez says:

i just bought the car yesterday my dad changed the plugs now it starts and
after i shut it off it wont start back up.The coil wires where exposed and
we fixed that. now the ecp light is on. it is putting out the p0600 and
p0688 on a code reader and the reader is saying speed sensor

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Tiptronic unit, as in the TCM? What is the issue? Cranks but does not run?
Any fault codes stored? You want the part number for the engine speed
sensor? Year & engine code of vehicle?

Gidzilla El Mazinger! says:

Thank u for the video, I’m looking to do the same job but my 02 mk4 1.8t
but I can’t find that sensor, any clue of the location?

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Thanks for watching & taking the time to comment. It helps having done it a
few times… as well as having an assortment of tools.

fatkidinalilshirt says:

Hi, i just wanted to say thank you for all of these vids, its realy helping
me with my cars work! 2001 jetta 2.0 azg

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

What’s your engine code (not the OBD2 Code)? Are you in North America?

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Hi, you’re welcome! I’m glad that they are of help… thanks for watching!

Emerald Perez says:

it is a 2003 audi a4 1.8

Emerald Perez says:

the dealer ship says i have to buy the triptonic unit any idea on the part
number

Thomas EXOVCDS says:

Hi, thanks for watching & taking the time to comment. Same location. Find
the oil filter and look at the engine block behind it. The sensor is
mounted above the oil pan mounting bolts… close to where the transmission
meets the engine.
