SOLUTION!!! Changed PCV valve and threw in a new valve cover gasket. this
is pretty much mandatory as a clogged PCV causes excess pressure in the
crank which can cause the valve gasket to leak. Cost me about $150 at my
mechanic as he worked around the intake monifold

I’m currently having this same problem with my 2005 volks passat 1.8t

Whats that rattling sound ?

DeMayo3000 says:

I paid 25 for PRV/Crankcase vent valve at Carquest. It doesn’t look like it
could fail, but it has a small spring loaded pressure plate inside, that
lets air out when the boost is to high. My car idling was on the fritz
before I replaced this. The Audi Certified Mechanic shop wanted 900 dollars
to fix this problem, said it was due to timing and timing belt need
replacement. Forget them stealing bastards! it cost me 50 bucks to fix.

DeMayo3000 says:

Take off all the German hose clamps, blow air threw each check valve each
way, there only supposed to blow one way. If they dont replace them, there
about 12 dollars at BAP auto or Carquest, The main problem on mine was the
PCV and PRV valves. PCV is just a larger check valve that lets air one way.
If its blows both ways, your getting vacuum problems in your engine and
dipstick. I paid about 18 dollars for the PCV valve, and the PRV is also
known as the Crankcase vent valve.

Tonci Loncar says:

Had the same issue on mine 2003 A4 (BEX engine). Plastic tube that comes
out of filter housing was cracked. Replaced it and smoke is gone now. So
you have prolem with that tube or rubber t-piece that is connected to it…

DeMayo3000 says:

I forgot to tell you to replace all the german hose clamps with regular
screw driver ones. Its easy to remove the check valves after that to test
them regularly if you continue to have problems.
