Quick check for fuel pressure Honda/Acura – EricTheCarGuy

This is a video response to the Honda main relay video that I posted. I’ve had a lot of questions about that video and I felt this would be a good response. …

Butter Pecan Rican says:

If there IS fuel pressure, could it still be the main relay?

cobra64th21 says:

Having trouble with my 1993 Honda fuel system. My fuel pump turns on but
little gas comes out of my fuel filter, it certainly does not spray. What
parts could be causing this? A while back I changed the fuel filter due to
a similar problem. Can a fuel pump turn on and run but not provide much
pressure?

Brandon Griffith says:

Looks like this dudes fuel pressures down to damn man smile or something

guadalupe davila says:

I have a 94 Honda Civic I tried to feel pressure test through the fuel
filter and mine does not spray out the way it seen on the video. What
should be my next step

SuperPotsmoker69 says:

I have a 96 civic and for some reason it starts shaking and then I give it
gas and it stops? Idk what that could be

Ismael Severino says:

Yes

chiefmojorising1 says:

Can you tell me.. I have a 1996 Acura TL 2.5. When I do this test my fuel
just kind of trickles out. It looks nothing like this video. Not nearly as
strong. Is that an indication of bad fuel pump. I already changed the fuel
filter.

Jack Arson says:

The test worked for me, I loosened the bolt slightly and got a fine spray –
for some reason the Honda started just fine after the test. I plan on
getting some fuel injector cleaner as a precaution. My filter was a bit
harder to find – lower down below the master cylinder. Thank’s for the
great test Erik, saved me an expensive tow to the mechanic. (Also used
your listen to gas tank test for fuel pump) P.S. I did not catch on
fire!

eyvin martinez says:

Thank you verry much .. my gf car has being having a similar problem with
all your help from the videos ill proceed to check it my self…

Sonny Gimenez says:

and keep up a good work!!

connie zamora says:

so would you have to change the fuel filter or is it the fuel pump? please
get back to me.

esmir mustafic says:

Hello I have a problem
it is a Honda engine d16a9 car simply does not receive gas when suddenly
hit the gas it just collapses and then after 1 or 2 sec receives gas worked
blocked following the return fuel tank and then operate normally measured
pressure I have about 2.8 bar when the system free no errors on the eCU
would give me could help
thanks

David Ace says:

I have a problem that I think is fuel related, but im not 100%. 1993 Honda
prelude jdm 1995 h22a. gets spark runs perfect, up until it gets to
operating temperature. then it will proceed to experience misfires/ bogg
downs under WOT. ive tried running injector cleaner through, and I know for
a fact the fuel pump is working properly as it was replaced less than two
years ago with an oem unit . my conclusion is its either the fuel pressure
regulator or its the fuel filter itself . again no CEL’s thrown even when
experiencing the problem described , I am at a loss of what it could be and
am wondering if testing the fuel pressure regulator would be a good start
or where I should look ?

Ben Earl says:

Eric, I recently had a neighbor fix my no start problem on my ’94 civic.
For several months, I had been needing to push start my car because when I
would turn the key all the lights and indicators would turn on, but other
than that, NOTHING happened. My neighbor offered to take a look at it for
me, and the first place he looked was underneath the dash behind the
steering wheel (he wanted to check the starter first, but I was able to
verify that the starter was not the problem). I don’t remember what the
part is called exactly, but I believe he said it was the “ignition relay
switch”. What ever it’s called, it’s the part into which the wires from
the clutch switch plug. What he did was unplug the clutch switch wires,
cut the end off of the connector, stripped the two wires coming from the
clutch switch and twisted them together so that my ignition now bypasses
the clutch switch all together. I watched my neighbor do it and now have a
pretty decent understanding of how to do it for myself if I ever need to,
but if you could post a video of doing something like this, I think it
would be helpful for a lot of viewers. :)

Bobby Sloogz says:

Dear ETCG,

I have a 95 civic dx. Ive done this test to see if im getting fuel after a
no start condition. I am not getting fuel but i hear the fuel pump prime
for a few seconds (sounds kind of like a whine and is much louder than
other EG civics ive had) AND the main relay clicks twice. The relay didnt
seem to have any bad solders but it did have quite a bit of flux between
the two contact points.

Does this sound like a bad fuel pump? Or possibly a clogged up filter?

Nick Morais says:

thanks for this, this is a great tutorial, and shows me exactly what to
look for.

Ivan Perez says:

+EricTheCarGuy I recently bought a Honda Civic 92 and Im having trouble
starting the car I crank it but it seems like there is no gas going in. I
tried checking the fuel pressure and there was no 3 second spray.

nik12937 says:

That fuel line connects just like my rear brake line connects to the
caliper, so strange.

Thomas Startin says:

could be your ignitor in your distributor …… they fail when they get
warm too. May only be available as a distributor though. But there’s 1000’s
of reasons why cars expire. It could be as extreme as poor oil for too long
and the compression in the engine is’nt sufficient. Good Luck.

Richard Landry says:

i have a honda accord that there is something wrong with it? it starts but
it wont go over 1500 rpm i dont have a clue what is wrong with it

hoser119 says:

Hey buddy, I have a 94 Honda civic with a vtec dohc engine put into it. i
bought it from a sailboat guy in maine. its a five speed and when i drive
it (im new to standards also. Yay!) it smells or gas and slight exhaust.
nothing at city speeds but highway. is there anything i can do to get rid
of the smell or is there something wrong i am doing or the car is doing? it
also needs a new dash gauge and light behind it. can i repair this myself?
please help. thank you

Victor Valencia says:

Hey so i have a 1990 honda accord and when i was driving it suddenly deaded
on me and it wouldnt start again.. i already replace the main relay and it
does have fuel pressure so what could be wrong helppp???!!

Travis Miller says:

allan martel c. nioda says:

you are good mechanic im allan

frankiewhite21 says:

Hey eric I have a 92plymouth acclaim and I started haveing a problem with
lost of power when going up hills and it sounds like its strove for gas
help me

ali mahmood says:

sir.you are funny guy and I am very very respect you . All your subjects
its very helpful . thank you.

EricTheCarGuy says:

@josh300 It should shut off about 3 seconds after the computer senses that
the engine has not been cranked. Normally having fuel pressure is not a
problem, it’s when you don’t have it that it’s an issue.

FBobby says:

So IS there a Test Port on hondas? Or did they just decide to not put one
on there so we can all try lighting ourselves on fire with this great
method?

MrJunior480 says:

quick question? im about to start checking why my car (91 integra) wont
start i tried this method n no fuel came out…so i wont have a day off of
work till 2 days so in 2 days ill start working on it…meanwhile what are
a few things i should check IF the main relay is working could it be the
fuel pump or what is it that i should check next? thanks id appreciate the
help and advice..jst trying to think ahead of other things jst in case one
of the other things fail..

David says:

Erickthecarguy, dude you rock!! Your information is always helpful

r18a1USDM says:

how can u tell if ur car has low fuel pressure ? what are the signs?

Organicle Man says:

Wait so what about all the flammable gasoline that sprayed all over the
engine? Let it dry before you start the car, or clean it up?

Freddy Rodriguez says:

i have a 1991 acura legend, runs great, but sometimes when i park & later
go 2 started , it wont start,i wait for a while and it starts rite up!!, it
only seem do it in hot weather, any idea what could it be?

brokenbeforetime says:

Is it true that running your car with very little gas can cause your fuel
pump to go bad due to heat. Someone told me that without enough gas
covering the pump it will heat up more and go bad sooner. I don’t really
believe him. Do you have an opinion on this? Thanks for all the awesome
videos!

zach robison says:

so i watched your vid on the relay and now this one….so heres my problem
i have a 94 civic ex coupe with the d15z6 and while i was driving it died
but then came back it ran for about 1/4 mile longer then died as i was
pulling in my driveway and now wont start. i just bought it and the oil was
alil low so i filled it up and still nothing so i then checked everything
else, i have no fuel or spark. im lost cause it was running just fine on my
2hr trip back home with it.help me plz!!! lol

José Pablo Fuentes Solís says:

I have an Accord Coupe 2001, I did fix the main relay, but i have one
problem, what is happening if the pump keeps pumping after more than 3
seconds, mine doesn’t stop working, when the engine is not running… Any
thoughts??? Thanks so much for your videos!

thebaycuddy says:

how is he an idiot if he worked for the acura dealership?

TaylorC7 says:

My issue with my Honda, is similar to this guy’s issue. Mine is a 95, but
with less issued they they were saying. On mine, I had replaced the fuel
filter (at the time, the car drove fine, but you couldn’t push on the gas
hard or the car would shut off). After replacing the fuel filter, it would
not start any more. so a mechanic I know said the replace the ignition coil
since there was no spark. Did it and still didn’t start. I checked the fuel
and I took the screw off and it just poured down.

EricTheCarGuy says:

@allannioda2000 Thank you Allan.

EricTheCarGuy says:

@MrRJLandry Hard to say really, you might start by checking ignition timing
as well as your tune up items. You could also post this question over at
the ETCG forum as I’m sure there will be a lot of suggestions for you
there. You could also just do a search of the site using the search
function for a possible answer. Good luck.

michael terrien says:

yeah very true i replace my main relay and coil pack and igniter and spark
plugs and that didnt solve it bet its my fuel pump but the computer is
throwing about 6 codes

seancg21 says:

eric your the shit

rollingbunny says:

@EricTheCarGuy Hey Eric I called the Honda dealer to find out where my fuel
filter was located on my ’98 V6 EX. He told me that it was in the tank with
the fuel pump, and was a lifetime filter. So we bypassed checking the fuel,
and went to the relay exam next…. soon to be determined, about my no
start problem. Weird huh… I have never had a car that you couldn’t see
the fuel filter!

EricTheCarGuy says:

@1989purry I use this test to verify that I have fuel pressure, it’s not
exact it’s just an ON/OFF proposition, I’m just checking to see if it’s
there or not.

CubanPapi0 says:

Good Job on the info Eric

EricTheCarGuy says:

@LilRennagade Honda fuel pumps hardly ever go bad and I don’t recommend
replacing them with aftermarket units. I’ve actually done a video on how to
repair a main relay that you might want to check out, just listening for a
‘click’ isn’t enough.

Adam Lawrence says:

Eric, Thanks for the video..I have a ’94 Civic. I tried your fuel pressure
check outlined in the video, and the fuel didn’t spray out, rather it
dribbled out slowly. Which leads me to believe the vehicle has low fuel
pressure. However, the fuel pump and the main relay seem to be in working
order. (I can hear the fuel pump power on, AND I can also hear the main
relay clicking as it should) The CE light isn’t on either. Any thoughts?

Ian Shearer says:

I drive a 1990 acura integra RS and as driving it yesterday, at about 40
mph the engine just died out of the blue, its getting spark so i know the
dizzy is fine, dont know if im getting fuel, cant find the filter on the
fire wall, will keep looking. Please let me know if you have anything that
can help me. Ian
