I drive a ’99 Teg as well. I’m pretty sure I have the same problem and I’m
also fairly certain it IS the o2 sensor. If it is bad, it will trick the
engine into thinking the air/fuel ratio is bad, so it will dump extra fuel
in there to compensate for the problem it thinks it has. I smell fuel
sometimes, get horrible fuel economy and sputter at low RPM’s. I also have
an exhaust leak that could be contributing to the issue.

Thank you for the help

Do you know how to change the secondary sensor? And before you answer, keep
in my I have ZERO auto know-how. I just got quoted at $400 to have it done,
and from what I’ve read, they are easy to do on your own.

SpeedysmamaHI says:

Would this be same for changing in an Aqura Integra LS?

grjr says:

low gas mileage can be caused by a variety of problems, I can’t confirm
that your low gas mileage is the symptom of a bad oxygen sensor

grjr says:

I haven’t changed a secondary sensor on these cars but it shouldn’t run
$400 unless maybe you are getting the work done at a Honda/Acura dealer
with factory parts. The secondary sensor may be more difficult to change
than the primary sensor do to limited access. Changing the sensor may
require unbolting the catalytic converter from the vehicle and possibly
removal of the center console to access the electrical plug. Shop around
and you may find a shop that will do the job for less.

Scott Clark says:

Auto parts sites show these sensors going for $25 or so. Looks like they
are pretty accessible on integra’s and shouldn’t run a lot of money to do.
Now I had an older civic once where you had to take a bunch of things out
just to get to it/ that’s where things can get expensive.

my ’99 integra gets 14mpg. Do you think it’s an oxygen sensor issue? thanks!
