I locked my keys inside my 1991 Acura NSX, and it sucked. Luckly, we got some help from a police officer offer and was able to unlock the car with the cool tools he had. I found those tools and made a video about them.

Definitely something to consider for road trips, especially when remote! Maybe not a bad thing to slide into the overnight bag or something you're 100% going to take with you when you leave the car. In full disclosure, I've done this to myself at a rest stop in the middle of the mountains out east, on the road a long time, probably a little fatigued, and needed the 'pit stop' pretty bad so got in a hurry getting out of the car, reflexively booped the lock button but left the keys in the ignition. Fortunately did have my phone, but still had to wait ~2hrs for AAA to show up and do what you just described. When Liz and I travel together we bring both sets of keys and either each carry a set or we carry keys for the opposite persons' car so there's at least a lower likelihood of shenanigans.
