A quick video tutorial on how to change, remove and replace the rear hatch lift support struts on a 2013 – 2018 Acura RDX.
When the gas charged strut, also known as lift supports, shocks or strut arms, begin to wear out you notice the rear tailgate hatch will have trouble keeping itself open. When the lift support struts / shocks fully wear out, they will not be able to keep the tailgate hatch open at all on your Acura RDX.
This DIY video tutorial will show you how to change and install the hatch lift support strut / shock on the following Acura Models:
2013 Acura RDX
2014 Acura RDX
2015 Acura RDX
2016 Acura RDX
2017 Acura RDX
2018 Acura RDX

Great video. İ would also strongly recommend putting some marine grease into the strut ends before popping them on. Marine grease because water tends to drip onto the upper pivot points of the struts when the liftgate is opened after or during rain/ wash, and washes out regular grease, resulting groaning and moaning of the liftgate after a while . İt happened to me because i didn't initially either apply grease or used regular automotive one.
The rear hatch no longer works automatically. The repair guy said we needed new struts, and now says we need a new motor. I figure he isn't doing any troubleshooting. Is there a switch I can check? Troubleshooting tips?
Thanks!!! You definitely need two people.
