Sbould you also change the trans filter?

cgrscott says:

I changed the transmission fluid in my 2003 Civic (with the 3 Qrts Honda
ATF-Z1). It was easier than changing the gear oil, back in the days when I
only drove the stick shift cars.

dirtshower250 says:

Does the drain plug have a torque spec?

Brandon Ellis says:

I tend to always use the factory fluid. I would rather spend $20 more on
fluid them $3000 on a new tranny

cgrscott says:

A lot of youtube mechanics are saying that you are draining and adding 3
quarts of transmission fluid on a 2001 Honda Oddyssey. The Honda parts
counter told me I am draining and replacing 3.5 quartz, not 3 quarts. My
2003 Civic has a 3 quart transmission fluid change and my 2001 Oddyssey has
a 3.5 Quart transmission fluid change.

I have a 97 prelude base with the four speed tiptronic trans., my question
is, is there any way of bumping up the line pressure (for crisper shifts)
or making other adjustments without spending 1000$ on a controller? I want
to keep the auto trans, partially to show these kids that an auto, with the
right parts can indeed be a quick car. any advice. not many parts
available, such as stall converter, and shift kits, or valve bodies. this
is my first import, we’ve always built mopars, I can’t afford the gas for a
powerful v8 anymore that’s why I switched to Honda

baldheadjim says:

Great video! My son watched the video and changed the fluid on his 2003
Acura TL with no problems!

Joey Cervantes says:

dude Eric your so awesome man thank you for this Video

roninscholar says:

“There is no filter, the filter is internal inside the transmission.”
Wait. What?
The next thing I say to you will be true.
The last thing I said was false.

TheRealoldcar says:

I agree with you that Honda Fluid DW1 (today which replaces the Z1) in
Honda/Acura Automatic Transmissions. Having said that; I would like to
share with everyone that I currently have a 1991 Accord EX with Auto which
I have been using Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF since the odometer was at 30k. It
currently has 328k and have no transmission issues. The Schedule of change
was ever 50k. Still, as a professional mechanic, I would recommend that you
all stay with Honda DW1 or whatever replaces DW1 in the future.

Derek Cheriel says:

I have a Honda civic 1994 and transmission leak all the oil and my step dad
told me if I put new oil at the transmission will mess up and he told me to
find reusable transmission oil but I can’t find any can any one help me

Hey ericthecarguy
I’m trying to replace mounts on a 1998 honda accord v6 starting with trans
mounts… Can you pls tell me locations and how to access them. Thanks!

Keith Davis says:

Hey Eric, how long is the shelf life for the honda trans fluid unopened?

DONE ADIIZUA says:

hi Eric, whats the size of the rech u used to take out the the trans drain
plug?

methevas2 says:

Aren’t you supposed to start the car and shift gears before and after
changing?

Muhammad Qadir says:

Hello Eric, i drained and replaced my transmission fluid on my 2000 accord,
at around 108k miles, it now has around 127k miles and every time i take it
to a shop for an oil change they almost force me to get a transmission
fluid flush, and this is the story with the 3 different locations i’ve
taken my car. The car drives perfect, gears shift smoothly including first
to second, as far as i can tell, the transmission is sound, there is no
noise or clunk sounds between shifts. I checked my transmission fluid
today, its not red, but its not black either, its like light brown with a
hint of red. I just want to know if its safe for me to flush the system
with new fluid (drain>fill>drive>drain>fill>drive…etc)? will that ruin my
transmission?

Sou t says:

I got a 2010 Honda Odyssey Minivan with about 39k. I’ve yet to change the
transmission oil, is my transmission now screwed?

and yes, I’m gonna have it changed asap.

Persocondes says:

always use factory fill fluid, because you can never get old fluid out
100%, so mixing the same type of factory fill won’t give you problems, you
never know mixing other fluids is going to cause, i.e. mixing VW factory
fill green coolant with store bought coolant, it will gel up and you will
get no flow.

cgrscott says:

I have been paying the dealership to change my transmission fluid on my
Civic and Odyssey. I am looking at doing it myself because everything is
going up sky high at the dealership service department. They also try to
use the service interval to grow their tire business and their battery
replacement business. I go to a tire store for my tires and I go to
Autozone for my batteries.
