DIY: How to Seafoam an Acura CL 3.0 or Honda Accord V6 (J30 engines)

DIY: How to Seafoam an Acura CL 3.0 or Honda Accord V6 (J30 engines)

Yes, I know the vid is cheesy. Was originally doing this vid to make fun of “Goss’s Garage” on MotorWeek. But after the first scene, I thought I could really…

JDMricist says:

Brake booster vacuum line I believe. I could be wrong though. I don’t have
that car anymore so I can’t check.

joelromanjr says:

What vaccum line is it exactly??? Im trying to do this.

JDMricist says:

1) It really does. Depending how much carbon deposit and gunk is in your
system, you could see maybe 1 extra MPG and a couple horsepower. The main
thing you will notice (well the thing I really noticed) was a smoother
idle. Especially when A/C kicks on. 2) It actually is possible to clean out
gunk in your crankcase that could be plugging leaks so you want to make
sure the engine has been maintained properly and that there are no leaks to
begin with cause they could get worse.

mrkongsimr says:

Thank´s handsome , nice video. I have two questions . Did this really help
, in which way ? Can it damage anything , or be harmful ?? Nice car !

JDMricist says:

Mine stopped smoking at about 5miles.

JDMricist says:

Apexi N1. If I could do it over again I’d get the Apexi WS2.

funkytool69 says:

I have the same motor in my honda as well, that motor is bad about the egr
valve port getting clogged I recent cleaned mine out works wonders, plus
cleaned the throttle body and iac valve, man it runs like a dream, my
throttle response is awesome, plus it run a lot smoother even shifts
better. Hope this helps thanks!

friskifrisco1 says:

Ay I got a question…does the seafoam fucks up ur o2 sensors ? Cuz I’m
planning .on doing this to my Cadillac cts 3.2

Christine Cappiello says:

@ssksickssk o because i brought my car the acura dealer and they told me i
need to put in premium in

Sterling Nobles says:

WTF why do people always but there gas tank thing on the car and not on the
holder wheres its suppose to go?

karsseboomh22 says:

after your done putting in the seafoam. do you just go out and drive for a
hundred miles straight then change the oil when you get back?

Laith Behnam says:

@JustinKapow I used it and drove about 11km from when I used it to my house
and when I got home it had stopped smoking

chrisantoun14 says:

it just sounds like more cause he had a CAI on it

JDMricist says:

Because the driveway is a huge incline and the door kept closing on me.
Hence why I have the screwdriver holding it open.

mardemdel7 says:

Wow i never heard of seafoam before…i think im gonna try it on my 1999 v6
acura

dan says:

@nsx4life2008 lol! yea, no shit!

JustinKapow says:

Dude when does it stop smoking I’m wanting to try on my 8830 crx

JDMricist says:

If it was bad, car forums wouldn’t be preaching this method. As long as you
change your oil by a couple of hundred miles you should be fine.

dan says:

@DragonNinja06 sorry man, i dont know y in the hell u would take a 300zx
over a VR-4. It just breaks my heart. Its 4 wheel drive, twin turbo lookin
ass, is amazing. use to have one, then my dick headed dad wrecked the fuck
out of it by hitting a mobile home!

NeufNeufUn says:

@friskifrisco1 it can temporarily throw on the ‘check engine’ light because
of o2 sensors, but those codes are normal and they should go away in 10
minutes of driving it shouldn’t hurt anything as long as you change the oil
soon after

JDMricist says:

Yes, but more throttle response than acceleration. Getting a couple more
MPG right after too.

sysco cervnates says:

wut intake do you recomend for a v6 97 acura 3.0cl

Christine Cappiello says:

hey i did this and it does idle better but i didnt notice any more power or
pick up

JDMricist says:

@friskifrisco1 If it’s a really old car that’s never been treated before,
then probably. Your CTS should be fine.

JDMricist says:

Doooooo ettttttttttttttttttttttt!!

ACK15 says:

i have a 99 accord, do you feel any increase in throttle response and
acceleration?

Christine Cappiello says:

ahahhahahahahaha im gonna do this friday where was this taken?

JDMricist says:

There were two main reasons that made me decide on the 300ZX. Main one was
that it was my dream car since the first Gran Turismo came out. Second
reason was RWD, I wanted to get into drifting. Turns out drifting is not
for me lol so I sold the Z for an S2000.

ccrs02 says:

yoo where did you get your exhaust? and do you got the whole exhaust system
or just the exhaust tip? get back to me asap

karsseboomh22 says:

is that bad fot the motor? i herd it can be bad?

Laith Behnam says:

@Canadianhuh I recently seafoamed my mazdaspeed protege and at first I was
a bit sceptical but afterwards I really realized a change so I do recommend
it I’ve never tried putting it in my crankcase but its up to you but engine
wise it definitely works

DrShankenstein says:

well done! thanks man!

Canadianhuh says:

Nice vid, did you have any noticeable improvements in the way your engine
runs?

JDMricist says:

No prob bro. You can really tell it idles better especially when the A/C is
on. Also noticed around 15 more miles a tank for awhile after the seafoam.
Not much but it’s there. Easier startups too till I started running on
fumes again…. Never run on fumes.

Christine Cappiello says:

is the exhaust loud?

nsx4life2008 says:

6:34 , that’s what I called ‘getting smoked’ …

JDMricist says:

Yup. All 97-99 CL 3.0 models and Accord V6 98-02 models. It’s a Short Ram
Intake but I got it on ebay. You have to use Accord V6 short ram intake
98-02 as the search term on ebay.

JDMricist says:

It cleans out all the miles and years of carbon buildup through the
emissions system which gives you a little better throttle response and
slightly more mpg.

Cirrux says:

hahah your spirited drive is sick, i wish someone would do one of these
videos for the 4 banger

JDMricist says:

Most consumer products are just poured into the gas tank which you’re
right, doesn’t do much of anything. Seafoaming goes into the crankcase and
vacuum lines aswell as the gas tank so it can clean out those nasty carbon
deposits aswell as any other muck that has been sitting in your engine over
the years. I gained 2mpg and noticed slightly better throttle response.

Fatboy Slim says:

Good job little dude & it was funny.

Jonathan Portillo says:

What does this do? im new to this?
