I nominate this as reality video of the year. I used a 1200 degree heat gun
to heat the bolt. About 30 seconds twice to get my bolt loose. I planned on
an hour or two to get the crankshaft bolt off. It was closer to 2 hours. I
torqued the bolt to 150 ft/lbs and went back to remove it 2 days and a few
trips later. I put on the 500 ft/lb impact wrench and walla…..
nothing!!!! 🙁 Oh man had to do the breaker bar all over again and like you
take out the 3 foot helper pipe. I put all 150 lbs of my weight on a
breaker bar and pipe combo at least 6 ft total. DO the math, 6ft x 150lbs =
900 ft/lbs. What happened to the 150 ft lbs I torqued it to. I am not sure
it is the rust, but that can be a problem. Look at the bolt you took out —
no rust. It must be the momentum of the engine torquing that bolt. I can’t
explain it. The engine is rated at only 195 ft/lbs of torque. I suppose if
we could figure it out we could solve the world’s energy problems.

I didn’t use the jack stand trick. When my bolt finally loosened I had
breaker bar flying in one direction, extension in another and the socket…
well you get the idea. Use the jack stand if you have one.
