Thanks for posting!. I have a 2004 TL stock. Im wondering if my tranny is
due to go since I keep hearing about the problem all over the net. Im
sitting at 143000km and the car seems fine. What are some of the signs that
I should look out for?

Christopher Cisneros says:

Thank you for posting! My 2003 CL Type S has bad transmission problems.
Acura of Stockton has two diagnostic charges, $175 and $500. The last
diagnostic includes a valve adjustment. But now they want $3,000 on top of
the other charges. My car revs when engine is idle or stopped at a light,
even at acceleration.

STMOTORS says:

I was on Highay 403 and I lost the trannie so CAA came over the drive he is
like wow type S nice car i am like dude Its not working u take this nice
car and tow it home but after this fix this car sails from North York to
Mississauga in 30 minutes.

Brett Buchanan says:

I have a 2000 TL. your supossed to be in 4th well city driving only use the
5th gear on the highway or going faster thank 90km

Brett Buchanan says:

While city driving*

coolerdude44 says:

@karsseboomh22 no it’s not, but all cars made in the usa have problems. i
know, i was unfortunately the owner of a nissan altima and a toyota camry,
both american cars =/

IPIxGh0sTxIGI says:

i have the same issue, but my light stays on

keashaun1 says:

the problem is the clutch will not release you should get it fixed

gtachild says:

HUH?????? Designed in America???? where you gettin your info because its
blah

Bostonclassics1 says:

In Walpole, MA is a repair shop called Only Transmissions, on South St. The
owner Mark is an honest guy, in business for many years.

DownrangeAmoeba says:

I have the same problem. I tried replacing the selenoids but that only
provided a small repair. I’m getting my transmission replaced this week and
I suggest you do the same

Scott w says:

i had this on my 2003 TL traded out a few years ago 3 transmissions, Honda
warratyed to 140k…decided to ditch it…. bad year for the TL 🙁 if you
have a problem the “D” light will flicker…

Styles Venez says:

My tranny is acting funny in my 2003 tl. Is it worth fixing an Acura. What
are so special about Acura tl.

slickkapone says:

I have ’99 TL, it does the same thing, on a cold start though. I have to
come to a complete stop for the tranny to downshift to first gear. If I
roll through, it will not change or it will start off in 2nd gear which
will be a crawling take off. It’s such a nice car, but that damn
transmission scares me. I’m even thinking about doing a 6sp conversion from
a CL or Honda Accord. But that’s going to be stupid expensive…A shame…

Fei Wang says:

Thanks everyone for the comments. Just an update on the issue: dealer
replaced tranny for me. Warranty covers it. So if anyone have similar
trouble, talk with your dealer. Good luck!

incheon says:

I was driving today, and after about 45 minutes I noticed the trans started
shifting rough between first and second. Then I got on the freeway and the
tcs came off by itself and check engine light came on, I was told solenoid
problem? Any advice would really help. Thanks!

karsseboomh22 says:

yeah the acura tl is the olny car made in the usa

DROIDRAZR16 says:

Can you be more specific on what the problem is and the solution

upthepunkss says:

@mortaza2005 well the 2008 has a completely different drivetrain, he
probably didnt do the maintenance he was supposed to do and drove it
aggressively because those transmissions dont have common problems like the
older(pre ’07) mdx and 3.2tl and cl transmissions. if acura tells you to do
something so that the part doesnt fail and you dont do it why should they
fix the part? the warning was there, the car literally tells you when to
change which fluids/filters

MohonaTvCanada says:

Trust me i know how you feel about this problem.. I am driving my TL same
way as you do. Gotta change my Transmission real soon, its 1700$ man….

hm008vaj says:

At least Acura owned up to it and repaired it. Had a NEW Ford T-bird when I
was 16 and that POS car started with problems from the getgo. Dealer blamed
me, a 16 yr old, mechanically ignorant person at the time, and made excuses
to avoid recalling latter issues. Thats why I wouldn’t even waste my time
pissing on a Ford.

PneumaticTire says:

Ahhh, indestructible asian cars. Gotta love em.

BialyOrzel777 says:

when you open the hood standing in front of car it’s on right side of
engine it s a screw on filter it’s basically connected to the transmission
close to the fill plug the filter has some brackets holding it to the side
of transmission also transmission cooling are connected to it so if ATF
filter is clogged transmission will slip also some people say transmission
solenoids they are magnetic so they collect metal chips might go bad they
send signals to change gears but change ATF Filter first

gtachild says:

I love Honda/Acura I have a 05 accord coupe, but they really should get
kicked in the face for these garbage trannies they farted out.

VF1Skullangel says:

Transmission pump.

coolerdude44 says:

… where do you think it was designed?

deanthony dean says:

the problem is the tranny is having problems downshifting meaning its stuck
in d5 or 5th gear u need to change ur at shift seloniod they are on top of
the trans stop starting from d1 it will cause the tranny to slip and fail
my rl was doin the same $3600 tranny swap

GRECO OLIVERA says:

Nasty car

Nexumbiker110 says:

what was your warranty?

rite4lyf says:

Warning!!! Google “Engine and Transmission World” Beware!!! Read the
complaints; they are crooks, they will rip you off.

karsseboomh22 says:

ok what im saying is the acura rl IS the honda legend. Not that they share
the same platform. The acura tsx IS the honda accord not that they share
the same platform…The rsx IS the new integra not that they share the same
platform. Now the acura tl does share the same platform but is not the
accord in japan…all those acuras are honda the OLNY thing changed is the
emblem notthin ELSE, they all come with navi leather etc. over there too

wongmylesa says:

lmfao… i agree… my accord v6 had the same probs lol

An M says:

Your gears are slipping, this is a very common problem on the tl 2000-2003,
it costs $2000 at the dealership to fix because they will tell you to get a
new transmission. The warranty went up to 175,000 kms and 2011 i believe so
you are out of luck

Oscar Torres says:

@fraviaseeker hey im having the same problem but my traction control stays
on what do you recommend I do please and thank you

BialyOrzel777 says:

Gman lmao your spelling is worse hahaha you think your better and smarter i
dont think so …..brockery?!? LMAO

BialyOrzel777 says:

replace the tranny ATF filter every 20000 miles or so when it slips again

axle01978 says:

gtachild says:

I can care less where it was designed, everyone I know with a Honda/Acura
loves them and has had no problems.

Ulysses Del Mal says:

what´s the year of your acura???

karsseboomh22 says:

no the tsx is the honda accord all over the world with the exception of the
US…the tl may be made from the accord platform but IS NOT THE ACCORD the
tsx is i lived in japan for three years i know this stuff

deekay2 says:

What about Honda’s DW-1 fluid? Is there any difference between the Honda Z1
and DW-1 fluid?

upthepunkss says:

im an acura tech
