This tutorial will show you how to replace the water pump on a Polo / Up / Fabia / Ibiza 1.2 3 cylinder engine. It’s an easy job to do, with good access and only requires a few basic tools.
For more info about the serpentine belt and tensioner see this video of mine:

DISPOSAL OF OLD COOLANT: DO NOT pour old coolant down any surface drain or sink. Pour it down your toilet and flush it away. It will then go to a treatment plant with the sewerage. Ethylene glycol coolant is extremely toxic to aquatic life, so if it goes down any surface drain it is likely to do considerable harm.

Watching the video back myself, I realise I didn’t make mention of disposing of any old coolant. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE flush it down your toilet and DO NOT empty it into any surface drain. It’s extremely toxic to aquatic life (not to mention small mammals like our hedgehog friend)
Hello good video. Can drive without serpentine belt if its snap on road and drive for few kilometers to fix it?
Thank you. This video is very helpful as it is very similar to the Polo 6R with the 1.4 CLP engine (with timing chain)
Another brilliant video .
Thank you for these useful videos for this engine. Greetings from france !
Master fix.
I noticed there is a small coolant leakage from my polo water pump area. Would I need to change the whole water pump or just the gasket.
Wow it,s very simple work!
I notice a lot of cars are now available with 3 cylinder engines. I am interested in your opinion on these, as long as they are looked after would you expect them to last as long/be as reliable as conventional 4 cylinder engines?
You are amazing
how many miles ??
I have a car itself and I have a problem with the water pump. Can I get it? Please reply
What do you smoke?
Great video. Covers all the main points.
For those interested this is exactly the same procedure for the Skoda Fabia MK1 1.2
In Finland old coolant is taken to same recycling point as old oil, old car batteries, unused paints, e-scrap and so on.
This coolant pump couldn't have been easier! Very well explained. The only thing I'd add is, be sure not to get any coolant on the serpentine belt, as it will damage the belt. It may produce a squeal. You can rinse off the other pulleys with hot water or brake clean, if any splashed on them from the job before reinstalling the belt.
