I bought the cheapest Jaguar S-Type R in the nation. And the transmission is stuck in limp mode. With only 1 gear the 400HP, 400ft/lbs of torque, powered by a 4.2L Eaton supercharged V8, isn’t very fun. Amber and I drove to Ft. Worth, TX to pick up a new ZF 6HP26 6 speed automatic transmission. We pulled the old transmission out, installed a new pan and filter on the one, swapped the torque converter over, cleaned the trans cooler with Kooler Kleen, then installed the new one. The STR package adds the hand built supercharged V8, upgraded styling, 18″ alloy wheels, and bigger Brembo brakes.

All those for wearing safety glasses say EYE! Wow, nice to have a buddy with a garage/hoist/tools! I was glad to have a friend whose dad had a construction company with a pole barn. It seems on my first cars sensed the coldest week of the year for the water pump, starter, alternator, and belts. Didn't see the pile of Liquid Ice cans, nor did I see the R8 in the garage.
Planning on doing my transmission rebuild same car just a 2004 it has 116k miles any suggestions before I change the valve body?
hey JR, I have a ZF in my 745li and I had that issue and I had to cross my fingers for reverse….It ended up being a solenoid kit, after I replaced and used catrol multi import….Voila its been 56k miles and shifts like 2002 again
Hi JR, you said something about accelarating and deccelarating gently for the next 5 days of driving, in order for the transmission to readapt. Is this so important and, if nobody mentioned it, what can happen usually if this procedure is not respected? I have to mention that I have a zf 6hp26 transmission. Thank you very much!

I think you may have been lucky. Did you know that Jaguar made several different gearboxes for the S-Type and although they will all fit, if you mate the wrong one to your car it will never run properly. Nevertheless, good to watch as I had to have my one replaced by the garage, so was unable to to see how it was done.
