I just did this on my 99 Tacoma. It’s almost exactly the same (there’s not
a bolt on the back of the lock). I got it all back together but I have one
question: Is there a way to “calibrate” the opening rod? It seems like when
I lift on the handle there’s not quite enough leverage. It looks like
there’s some sort of thumb screw that runs through a hole in the rod lower
down (kind of where the inner handle’s rod ties in) Is that supposed to be
tightened?

@1aauto Great video. I’m trying to do this to a 2001 Tacoma, is the process
similar? Or is there a completely different setup on the Tacoma? Thanks

You may be able to apply some of the basic steps that need to be taken to
change the door handle on your 01 Tacoma. There may be a difference in the
way that it needs to be removed.

Perfect! TY! Have a 2004 Tundra. The “hard to reach bolt” for the handle
had fallen out. I was unsure about the clips and thought I might be missing
a screw because the clips were so snug. I followed the process to get the
panel off and retrieved the bolt at he bottom of the door. Put everything
back and the handle is operating normally again. Repair quotes were from
$65.000 to $185.00, money I do not have. 15 minutes of my time + the video.
You saved me. Thanks again!
