I disagree about removing the cabin filter housing being a waste of time. I
can’t get to that last small hose clamp with it there. I have a stubby
screwdriver I can get on it but it’s too tight to get with just my fingers.
I think I need a flexible screwdriver if they make such a beast. Probably
wouldn’t work.
@ saurbh.. I had the same problem 3 days ago.. I took my air intake off
just too get a clear view of every thing. Then I took off my DISA valve..
The flap on the DISA valve was broken from on side. Thank God the pin did
not fall in the intake manifold.. I got a new DISA valve and that solved
the problem.. Hope that helps you out..
I am having problems with my 2002 BMW 530i. Is this the same as an intake
vert control value? I can’t pass emissions on my car, do you think this
would solve the problem? Symptoms include shaking when at stand still and
can not being able to accelerate when needed. Service engine light on.
Do you think this would solve my problems or is it more than likely the
oxygen sensors 02 sensors are bad? Someone help please!!!
Do you know if something falls inside the big tube below the idle control
valve what would happen because I think something fell inside mine on it
makes a noise how would I fix it
I was cleaning my idle control valve and something fell in the intake tube
the one thats connected to the engine. The one that connects to the idle
control valve too

think that if I can find the icv and clean it, that should fix
it……………… It looks like the hard part is gonna be getting the
damn thing out!! lol
What specifically is wrong with the idle? is the idle just low in gear or
drive/reverse and it’s vibrating bad? if so check your engine mounts.
Remember, a mechanical fault won’t give codes most of the time.

fluctuating/dropping rpm that I did not resolve after replacing the whole
crankase ventillation system. One important tip: After removing the DISA
valve, tape up the hole with and, say painter’s tape. This is to prevent
any foreign object from falling inside the hole. Otherwise, your done for!
Imagine a nut or bolt inadvetently falling in! Thnx again.

gasket/grommet? I am reading where it indicates to replace gasket/grommet
whenever the ICV has been removed/replaced. Thanks!

Thank you Jake! You saved me $500+ I’m sure. My car started doing the die
on start-up periodically for indefinite amounts of time and delayed
acceleration in general (because the ICV was stuck. Did your project today
and it runs awesome now. One thing I’d add is the two clamps holding on the
lower boot are a BITCH to get out and frankly impossible (upside down on my
ride). I just hack sawed them off (being careful not to cut the rubber).
Did the trick. Just have a couple spares on hand 🙂
@JackDballa I had the same problem as you. Put new VANOS seals in. Didn’t
do a damn thing. I am going to clean my ICV this weekend. I’ll let you know
if that helps.

its like no gas goin to the engine.i somehow drop the pin that holds the
power connector to the maf. do u think thats the problem???any suggestions

I would clean it regardless. Also clean your MAF and check your intake
boots for any cracks/tears. Is your idle around 550-600 and it’s vibrating
bad? Most likely that’s due to engine mounts.
Your aftermarket alternator theaory is no true , after Market alternators
come in different amps, my after Market alternator was 140 amps compared to
the even cheaper one u bought which is probably only 90 amp
hi great video!! i have a quick question my bmw e46 318i has an idle
problem it will drop in revs then go up in revs constantly as if i was
sitting there reving it i have put it into the mechanics and after $700
nothing was fixed as he couldn’t work out why he replaced the crank shaft
valve and the o2 sensor is showing but he didn’t replace that but i had it
looked at again and they though it may be the egr but would be great if i
could get your opinion before i waste more money and time.thanks
I just completed the idle speed valve cleaning. It worked and now my 2001
325ti is running without the surging idle. Those clamps with the heads
askew and hard to get at were a problem, but are now in place for easier
access next time. The valve was not moving at all but plenty of carb
cleaner solved that. I also liberally sprayed the throttle valve area as it
was dirty also. Thanks for the video.
This vavle is also on the 318i 118HP e46? because i have some rpm
oscilations sometimes and all the time i have this oscilatons on rpm when i
move the whell.. could you give me an answer what i need to check.. thanks

Hey, I have a 03 330i that is idling too low (around 600rpm.) I wonder if
cleaning the ICV will help resolve this… I will doing this next weekend
as it doesnt look hard to complete at all… I just need to buy a torx set
first.

from your videos… still trying to figure out my idle problem, it starts

Big help, thank you. I found I could do the job without taking off the
plasticx shield that surrounds the brake master cylinder. It saves a little
time. The clamps down by the engine block are tough to get at as well. Mark

we were able to get the clamp around.

in my case it turns on the check and EML, gives code 1510 I turn it off and
normalized. What could it be?
