I own a 1996 Volvo 960. It has only accumulated approx 150k because when I was driving (I quit about 5yrs ago) I also owned 2 other Volvos. A 1988 740Turbo Wagon which drove more like a sport car, and a 1986 Volvo 740GLE that was my regular daily car. I’ve NEVER had an issue with any of them. Probably because they were all WELL SERVICED. Which is the answer to the majority of mechanical issues. The cheapest thing you can put into ANY car is Fuel, Oil & coolant . . . at the specified service intervals. Many complaints are caused by the owners themselves by failing to get expert advice when required. You wouldn’t try to self diagnose yourself if you are sick, so why try to do so for your car? Quite often it is far cheaper to have an expert resolve your problem as opposed to attempting repairs yourself. BTW, I’m a HD mechanic by trade myself and yet, I still pay a dealer mechanic to repair my car. They have the knowledge, experience and the tools to do whatever is required.
Engine mounts, spring seats, angle gear leakage and failure, transmission collar to angle gear failure, haldex pump failure, CEM water ingress, oil leaks from worn seals and clogged pcv system.
