Volvo S80 – Fix the annoying high pitch tea kettle sounding squealing noise coming from the back of the engine on your Volvo. This was done on a 2010 Volvo S80 3.2 liter, but many other Volvo’s have the same style PCV valve. This was a 15 minute fix and cost $25.
I used this part on Amazon:

I just changed this little PCV diaphragm …. to get the old one off, I used a very sharp 1/4'' wood chisel. Position the blade point perpendicular to the valve cap. Simply press down on each side of the clip opening . ie make to cuts per opening. Much less force involved… don't break the clips off the pcv box. I did 4 of the 6 clips….. the cap then lifted off .
Cheers from Mexico. Really did not want to spend $200 on the whole pcv box but was not sure how to remove this cap, not much info to find either, found your comment on an amazon item and had to give my thanks, will most likely add your handle on aliexpress where I purchased my part so people can see how to actually get it done.
Thank you!
Has the diaphragm held up? I’m worried about a Chinese part like this failing and then causing excess crankcase pressure. I guess there isn’t much complexity to it that can fail?
Thank you for this.
Thanks for your post , the PCV finally came in and I installed it in 1/2 hr . I used a small chisel to cut the plastic on the old valve and a small rocking pry bar to remove it . Had slight difficulty in getting the new one to engage the slots but finally got it seated after some perseverance. Thanks again for your video it was very helpful.
The clips are on the side facing the engine or did I miss something? If any of them would be on the other side getting them off would be close to impossible without removing the whole oil filter housing.
Thank you I thought it was the water pump on my wife’s 2008 XC 90 but after watching this I’m quite certain it’s the PVC valve .
Worked great, thanks for posting
Thank you for mentioning the positioning of the cap before you press on. I forgot to make note of it and had a hard time pushing it back on until i saw that mentioned on your video.
Hey Skiz, looks like we've got ourselves twin cars.. My S80 makes an awful noise after about 15 min of driving, stops under acceleration and returns when letting off the gas.. As I understand the engine causes a vacuum pulling the diaphragm closed.. I would be interested to know if replacing the valve solved this issue for you as a $25-30 sure beats having to take my volvo into a shop..
