We work on VW/Audi Products all the time and this is one thing we have seen so much and it was time for everyone to be aware that isn’t already. The Professor will show you one of the most common issues we see on these engines. It’s a simple find, but if you don’t know about it you could find yourself going down the rabbit hole. We hope it helps. Enjoy!

What a clean car – engine bay, outside, inside.
Sherman, I wish I was as good as you as a technician
If you like it, buy it new, drive it 6-7 years, let it go.
Wow I would never think it was the rear seal.
"royalty" auto service, do you service for a royal family in some country??
That's insane. The crankcase should not have sai and Pcv valve bullshit ever period. Imagine being such a shit engineer ur over complicated plastic vacuum system blows out rear main seals.
As a VW Audi guy I gotta say excellent video
Love driving German cars but man do they have issues that my Honda doesn’t. I could list a bunch of the questionable engineering I’ve personally experienced but I won’t bore you. Thankfully I do 95% of my own repairs and that helps ease the pain.
Which scan tool was that? It’s nice!!
Smoke Machine ??
I tried, I punched out after 3 minutes. Back to Dave's auto center.
Had a 2023 Tiguan as a fleet car. At 64k miles separator went bad and blew just about every gasket but not the rear main. VW service tech said they see it all the time. Shouldn’t they have a part that doesn’t do this all the time?
Hi sir can you give me the specs on the tablet you're using for the escan please thx or a link to purchase it
Great speech. Probably his best!
Easy way to check to see if your p c v is bad on a volkswagen or an audi… Just take the oil cap off.If the car dies , the p c v is bad…
Why dont they make a scan tool that would allow you to command a set throttle position? Maybe they do but none that i have or have used ever did. Would be handy!
Since the crankcase vent is open to the atmosphere it can't be a vacuum leak
Thank you for sharing your experience and expertise with us.
it's the junk design of the rear main. They usually make a vibrating noise sucking sound especially if PCV is bad. Always chang PCV with R seal job. Big circle thing on v cover
VW, Porshe, and Audi are the only makes I won't work on. I've been wrenching since 1990, but these things are like a different species.
are we going to see the rear main seal replacement
You need to smoke test your smoke tester.
Constructive Criticism: START OUT BY CALLING OUT THE CAR! What are we working on here? Very first thing to tell viewers
I’ve got a very similar issue on a 2016 Audi A5 2.0T (CPMB) quattro, ~260,000 km (Montreal cold weather).
Symptoms: rough idle/shaking (worse warm), occasional stall, long crank/hard warm restart after short heat soak, fuel smell on cold start, pops/burbles on decel.
Codes I’ve seen: P0172, P2188 (rich), P0506 (low idle), P0301 + P0304 (misfires), had P2279 earlier but it went away after repairs.
Already replaced PCV + N80, did intake carbon clean, fuel trim resets. Oil consumption was improved after a B12 piston soak.
Live data: LTFT ~ -38% at idle, ~ -25% around 2500 rpm, lambda ~1.0.
Next suspects are leaking/stuck injector(s) or HPFP/rail pressure bleed-down (possibly flooding on hot start).
If anyone fixed this exact combo on CPMB, what ended up being the root cause and what test confirmed it?
