A mechanic removes the spinning V-belt from a running classic Volkswagen Beetle with his bare hand. The belt runs between the crankshaft pulley and the generator or alternator pulley, while also driving the cooling fan used by the air-cooled engine.
The trick looks fast, but the risk is serious. A moving belt can pull fingers into the pulley before there is time to react, and running the engine without the belt also means losing charging and forced-air cooling. The correct method is to shut the engine off, wait until every pulley stops, loosen the generator pulley properly, and remove the belt without putting a hand near a live pinch point.

As someone who has lost fingernails to a V belt, nope, absolutely not, just use a screwdriver.
If you can do that its not adjusted correctly. Needs a shim or 2 taken out of the upper pulley.

This is just irresponsible everybody knows you're supposed to use a screwdriver to put the belt on and off the running Volkswagen engine
He is proving the belt does not need to be half as tight as people think. Old v belts are way better than the new ribbed systems
