In this video I have a look at a 2014 Subaru Outback that supposedly just had a wheel alignment done. Well… the evidence says otherwise. The rear alignment is WAY off, and both rear toe adjustment cams are completely seized and won’t turn.
There’s no adjusting this one until we fix the actual problem. So out comes the torch, the seized rear toe links get cut out, and we’ll install new parts so the alignment shop can ACTUALLY align the car this time!

Boy, I'd be mad as Hell at that first shop that didn't do the work they claimed and charged for it!!! I'd want my fricken money back!!! A higher authority should give them a hefty fine to persuade them not to be tempted to cheat customers!!!
Hey my guy why would you charge people to unrust the bolts when your laser alignment machine could have lasers through the rust. You make all the honest people look bad.
Anybody who notices when their alignment is out is a whole other class of customer. Normal dirtbaggery doesn't work on em.
What kind of a mechanic's shop does NOT have a victor wrench that gets used on pretty much a daily basis?
An oxy-acetylene torch was one of the first “pro” tools I bought myself way back when I was in High School. I called it my “fire wrench”. Amazing what you can do with it.
I welded with it too. But since I own every other welding process now except laser I can’t remember the last time I used the torch for welding. But it is a very versatile tool if you take the time to learn how and how not to use it.
Eric it's funny hearing you slag on "body shop" guys the way we slag on "mechanics" over here in Australia! While I agree with you whole heartedly about body shops in the US(I've seen & had to fix lots of stuff imported from MURICA so I feel your pain), "Mechanics" over here are mostly absolutely useless, but on top of that, they just rip people left & right!
Unbelievable to me, One of my buddies sent his adult daughter out into the wild just the other day because he said said "she has to learn this stuff for herself" to a national tyre shop for the "full service" a wheel balance & rotation, 4 wheel alignment & battery test, she went to pick up her car(which had freshly applied tyre shine all over her brake dust coated alloys) got the "print out" etc & went on her way. Long story short wheel alignment was never done, balance & rotation not done, battery test not done(whole top of battery covered in the green crusties!)

You are likely thinking of the phrase "same old rigmarole" (often spelled rigamarole). It is an informal idiom used to describe a long, complicated, and annoying process that feels unnecessary or repetitive
Eric O do the fire service in the peoples republic of New York allow you to use acetylene? Because in the uk they will let the building burn if there is acetylene involved. We have to use propane and oxygen instead of acetylene.
I think pontiac had the cam in the upper bolt. I remember a few pontiacs. Mid 2000's.

My buddy said he went to a tire store and got a lifetime alignment for 200 bucks and I said you got ripped off. I told him that's a scam. I'd rather take it to somebody that really knows what they're doing. Give me the before and after spec and tells me hey I had heat to the left rear to get it freed up, but I got it. But I understand when it's in the salt belt sometimes things just have to be torched and replaced and I appreciate the honesty and getting the car fixed correctly.
At our shop we had a tech who did alignments like you described. It was a running joke after he left to say, "quick, hit print" so that the machine would print out specs that were all in the green!
